Dropped my rudder in the water this weekend, almost a near disaster. I used to work on these boats all the time, but it's been 20 years now. Does anyone have a picture of a correct rudder assembly (1996 sport or ski nautique) inside the boat, under the gas tank, so that i can verify the repair shop puts this one in properly (the boat is new to me, and obviously someone didn't re-install the rudder properly). There evidently wasn't a safety wire, which i recall. I worked in a boat shop 4 years and had never heard of this happening.

David,
I'll try to snap a picture tomorrow. It's a pretty basic set up and I think it would be hard to screw up. Also search "rudder" on here and you might find something sooner. |

Cool, thanks - that would really help. I spoke with Woody at SE Correct Craft and he said right away "no doubt the last person that worked on the boat re-installed the rudder improperly". Appreciate the help.

This isn't the prettiest picture, but maybe it helps? There should be a wire through the head of the bolt on top and through the head of the bolt on the side. I'm not sure of the correct way to wind it, but it's 1 wire going through both bolts that prevents either bolt from turning very far if they come loose. The wire I mean isn't in this pic(top of rudder).
