Hi,
Im new to the forum.. I have been following CCfan for a while. Awesome site!! Im not sure if Im considered an "outsider" as I dont currently own a CC. I sold my 76 'tique about 20 yrs ago. (thanks to kids). I still have a soft spot for them tho and may start looking for another in a year or so. I am however in the process of restoring a 62 wooden Higgins inboard. I want to repower it with a RH SB Chevy/velvet71. Im in need of a little advice and possible help locating a few parts. I didnt know if anyone knows of a good manufacturer that is able to supply a reverse rotation cam without me "holding up a bank"? I called Crane and they said reverse cams are discontinued. I also called Lunati , they would "special grind" one , but cost was in the $300+ area. I am also looking for an early alum marine 4bbl intake for a sb Chevy. Can anyone help???????? THANKS!!!! |

Comp Cams will custom grind you a reverse rotation cam and they're not terribly expensive. I had one done for my 351W for a little under $200. With that said it took them three times to get it right. If you search for the post on this forum you should find the info.
I think Comp's quality is good once they get the specs right but I was a little disappointed in all the trouble I had to go through. As for other cam grinders you should be able to search this site and find some answers. There's been a lot of discussion about cams on here over the past year. |

i used comp cams also. awhite70 has me freaked out a little, about the whole messed up deal. i dont know if my comp cam is messed up or not we ordered them about the same time. but my boat runs great. i dont wanna pull the cam, even if i did i wouldnt know if it was right or wrong. maybe comp cams has it all worked out now?

I'm responding even though you're going with the SB Bowtie, but the Chevy part of course will be easier and cheaper to obtain. If you have a favorite local machine or speed shop call them. SpeedPro or Clevite have what you need and it will be in their catelog(s). And it shouldn't be a special order. Also, if you call P.A.W. (Performance Automotive Whse) they can get it for you also if you get a hold of a good tech guy on the phone (818-678-3000)and clearly explain that it's marine reverse rotation. Your most difficult issue will probably be the spec you choose. If you need help with that let us know. The intake you can surely find on E-Bay for next to nothing, (see the attached current listing below)but it won't specificially say marine, as no aluminum intake I've seen does, and most new Edelbrocks state that they're good for marine, fresh water use.
