New propeller

I'm not exactly sure what year they switched tranny's from the 1;1 to the 1.23:1 but if you have the 1:1 velvet drive I would suggest the ACME 540 prop. Their are several choices if you have the gear-reduction tranny so I would compare what the prop actually is now that you took off and then look at what rpm it was turning and correct for it as needed. for instance you where turning 5000 rpm fully loaded but need to be at 4500 rpm range so you would increase the pitch, dia or cup or a companation of each to decrease by 500-600 rpm.

I going to get an ACME 612 for mine but I have a pretty stout motor and turn close to 6000rpm now and want to be at 5000rpm fully loaded and 5500rpm when I'm by myself. Currently I have a 13 x 13 with .080" cup and the 612 is a 12.5 x 15.25 with .105" cup. the cheapist place Iv'e found for the ACME props is at this website

The boat currently has a 3 blade 13 x 13.

I purchased this boat over the winter to replace my 1982 SN with the same motor. To my knowlege there is no difference in the hull or powertrain between the 82 and the 86. My 82 had a 13 x 13 which offered great performance, no complaints.

A local marina suggested I stay with the 3 blade versus the four blade based on my use of the boat. He suggested an OJ 3 blade as a great upgrade to the michigan wheel.

The ACME 540 is the way to go as a stock replacement and will perform better than the OJ, michigan wheel, or cutter props of equall size.

Sounds like I should go with the Acme, now I have to decide on the 540 vs 542.

I ski, but I am not an expert. We use the boat for tubing, skiing, cruising, wake boarding, and a great seat at the dock to have a cocktail!

I am looking for the all around versatile prop.

Should I be concerned about over revving with the 542?

I have an 85 2001 351 stock with 700 hours. Last summer I put on a 542 Acme. I pull my son and all of his teenage friends around. They love the new prop for the wake. I love it because it takes less energy from the boat to get out of the water and less rpm to go 18-23 mph. I really noticed the way the prop took the vibration out of the hull at about 35-40 mph. Just one reminder, when you let off the gas hold on because the larger surface area stops you on a dime.
