Has anyone mounted a subwoofer under the bow on their mid 70's to mid 80's nautique? If so what size did you use? (8", 10", 12") did you make your enclosure or buy it? How much clearence did you have?

Mine's still covered up and I would like to get the parts ordered now and need to know how much room I have to play with. I would preffer to use an off the self enclosure but wondering if a 12" enclosure is going to be to big to fit.

do a search for my name on planetnautique.com (oldcentury76)

I put a 10" in a ported box up front, more than enough.

I built a customer box for a dual voice coil 10 in my 81 Nautique. The enclosure required only .6 cubic feet so it was able to fit all the way in the nose of the boat behind the lift ring bolt. Didn't take up any usable space. If you buy an off the shelf box then you will most likely just have to set it behind the passenger seat and a 12 would be really big in that spot. If you get a nice sub and amp an 8" sub will sound just great. I wanted to make some ripples in the water so i went bigger. Making a customer box is a lot of trial and error to get the right fit and can be very time consuming but for me is the only way to go. I would got for a sealed encloser rather than ported just because it requires less air space and a smaller box. of course the bigger the sub the bigger the box... GOOD LUCK

well just came off the creek, we were docked up with an x star, two super airs, and a wakesetter. all with after market stereos, every one had there stereo on until i pulled up and rocked them out. and they decided to go with mine. people from two boats over were asking "whats in there". so i would recommend large and ported.
