I have a 1984 Ski Nautique 2001, it keeps having tire problems, What is supposed be on it, It has 205-75-14 tires, with the rim being 6" it seems like they are too narrow??
They have a load range C, It also seems like D would be better. The boat is around 2,500 with a trailer of 800 = 3,300LBS and C range is 1780 each 3,560 total. also anyone tried putting 225-75-14 or even 15 inch? thanks for any input. |

BB1- Our '89 has 225/75-15 Load Range D. I recommend getting the wider tires & the LR'D' next time. I don't think it would be worth buying new rims just to change to 15 inch though. I just got 'TowMax' radials & am satisfied with them. They definitely have less rolling resistance than the bias ply.

I'm assuming you don't have the CC trailer with the 15" wheels. We're the same as Chris...ST225/75-15's ....load range D. I got the Goodyear Marathon radials and am also very satisfied. They are fairly new so I don't know about the longevity, but the ride is superb for the boat. I have also noticed better fuel economy.

Hmmm...As far as I know the CC trailers had 6-lug, 15" wheels. The original tire would've been H78-15, which converts to 225/75-15.
Maybe someone needs to verify that though. Look forward to seeing the pictures. |

Hmm...I don't know if those were something that got changed in 85 or if your hubs have been changed...perhaps to add brakes? Does you trailer have brakes by chance? Regardless, as long as you have the correct size tire for the wheel, and the tire has the correct load range for the weight, it shouldn't matter. Maybe those load range C tires are getting too hot? I'm assuming you keep them inflated properly. How have they been failing? |

As far as I know they are org wheels, they have a date code stamped in them of 84 and the boat is a 1984 so I assume they are org chrome with the triangle cuts around the outside. The first set may have been due to the age of 6 yrs old, they only get 100 miles a year. The main thing is I just want to be sure I get the right size on (height and wide) I had a friend who had a blue 84 (with the rare Chevy engine, mine is the Ford) That's how I got into the 2001 series. Its a great boat and loves power turns. SO if anyone on here has a 84 or older I would love to know the tire size on yours. SNobsessed and C-Bass thanks for your help so far

For what it is worth... my '80 had 7.50X14 bias ply narrow whites as original equipment. The lug pattern is 5 on 4 1/2 inch circle (Ford five bolt pattern). The rims are white spoke, 6 inch rim width. I replaced the tires with the trailer radial size equivalent on the same rims (cleaned up) six or so years ago. Lots of miles and no problems.
