I know enough about engines to be dangerous and even less than that about small engines. I thought some of the better informed on here might be able to help me.
I have a scag 3-wheel rider. It has the Kohler 22 hp engine. Recently the battery won't hold a charge so I need to use the battery charger in order to get it to start. Something might have gone wrong with my battery charger because it started smoking. (I might have ruined the charger by using it to electrolytically remove rust from some old tools) So I have another battery from my tractor and I hooked that up. The Scag started right up. I started to mow my lawn and about 1/2 hour in, it cut off. I noticed that the top 20 amp fuse in the two fuse block behind the control panel had burnt out. I changed the fuse and it started right up again. I did notice that the amp meter is reading rather high, I've never seen it go to the +10 reading before. The machine runs well but the reading concerns me. What should I check? Could the faulty charger have messed something up? |

seems like an overcharge situation, you need to get a reading at the battery when the mower is running. it should be anywhere from 12.6 to 14 or so, there has to be some type of voltage regulater whether internal or external

Thanks Eric,
I didn't think to take a reading while running, I'll take a reading and see what that says. Then if it's higher than the 14 volts I'll have to figure out what needs fixing. |
