I've got a 94 SN and I'm getting water in my right hand speedo. It starts as condensation and after a couple of days of skiing it fills about 1/3 full of water. It slowly drains but never quite dissipates entirely. I searched the forum on this but didnt' find anything.
What is the problem and the remedy? THanks in advance for the help. |

GL,
Check to make sure the pitot tubing connection on the back of the speedo isn't leaking. If not, inside the speedo is a bellows that expands and contacts with pressure at various speeds. Then, via a mechanical linkage moves the needle. These bellows develop leaks. The fix is to silver solder the hole in the bellows. Some here have done it themselves others have had them repaired. Your best bet if you don't want to do it yourself is to remove the bellows and take it to a jeweler. They are pros at silver soldering. |

If it makes any difference, the water was leaking out of the speedo at a pretty good clip at high speeds and flowing down the dash. Not sure if that changes the prognosis any. |

GL,
The flow of water being greater at speed confirms a internal leak. Getting back to my explanation on how the speedo works, it's really a pressure gauge calibrated in MPH. As speed goes up so does the pressure. With the internal leak, as speed goes up so does the pressure/water flow rate. |

For the second time, I've introduced a problem here that then goes away after I post. We ran the boat again over the 4th and although the speedo still doesn't work, it stopped the leaking entirely so, problem partially corrected. My initial post last month was in regards to some intermittent vibrations that some on here speculated was due to a prop that was not lapped correctly when it was installed. We have not had a vibration problem since then (about 8 hours ago) which leads me to believe that perhaps we had some bad gas that was causing a misfire (now that I've jinxed myself it will probably happen again this week end). Either way, it appears that all I have to do to rectify a problem with my new Nautique is to post on this board and the mere responses alone magically fix the boat. That's what I call a helpful board! |
