Was talking with a neighbor down the street last night. He's been "out of work" since Feb. He can find work but he chooses not to. Always blaming "this ecomomy and all"
I ask him how the job search was going. With a big smile he tells me that he just got his umemployment extened for another 33 weeks so he's not really looking. He said it was pretty much no questions asked at the unemployment office. He got a 6 month extention after answering no to 3 questions. When all is said and done he will have pulled 53 weeks. I understand why and believe in the concept of unemployment insurance. I really do. It helps keep families afloat. It help my family growing up when my father lost his job in the 80's. A full year of benefits? Where is the incentive to find work? 53 weeks! Thanks for listening. |

Worse thing when people tell you something like that and they're proud of it.
I've worked since I was 15 and have never collected one single minutes worth of unemployment or comp. I have always found work and if it wasn't right I continued looking while working but never collected a cent. I know 2 people right now that I could strangle, one is a relative thats been out of work since December 08, always seems to get by on money from other sources be it government, friends, family or whatever so she hasn't even started to look yet and won't until she's getting evicted. The other is a good friend who's been out since january and although he's steadily looking, he's turned down 3 what I considered reasonable offers "because it's not the kind of work he wants to do." Meanwhile both continue to collect unemployement while I go to work even though "it's not really the kind of work I want to do" I've got people working for me right now that are begging me to give them atleast 24 hours a week and other people are to good to get out of bed for that. I better stop now, my ears are probably getting red. |

Maybe the people you both are talking about could get a job as a Czar!!! 33 and counting. Never thought this country would be speeding toward socialilism/marksism. During Obama's campaign he told us exactly what he was going to do be no one listened. The only chance we have is to vote out all incumbents next year.

A friend of mine is a cooling technician. He has three trucks standing still for over three months now, because he can't find people willing to work...!!!
Over here, the minimum you get for unemployment is about 1K a month... I know people that work for as much as 1,1K a month... As you said DeepCreek... Where the h*ll is the incentive to work?? |

once again, the middle class is paying for the rich and the poor, we are foot soldiers...on the bright side, did you ever try to sit home for a week? im the type to go pick up aluminum cans on the side of the road lol, or i would even collect unemployment and find a job that pays cash...these are the people that glide thorugh life and dont want to better themselves, no self respect...we are a kinder gentler nation

I was told to file this spring, told my boss I do not believe in it, sent out fliers and di handyman work in the nieghborhood till things picked up. I had a discussion with a women who was home on unemployment who could not understnd my thinking. She stated unemplyment is compensation for the employment that you have already done. I explained that that is your paycheck . Unemployment is insurance and it costs society in the form of increased costs and decreased growth. I would go on unemployment as a last resort for the sake of my family, but I will not be a burden if I have any ability to prevent it. I wish some of our elected officials had the kahunas to get the message out that we all have reponsibilities and all the little burdens we place on our goverment and economy add up to the current mess. It is up to each of us to do the right thing. I choose to lead by example and explain it to those who do not understand. There needs to be some shame that goes along with a hand out so people might try and experience the good feelings of doing the right thing. Eric, Collect unemployment and work for cash???? please re-read above.

Hi Eric, I am still trying to figure you out, From what I can tell, you talk the liberal talk but you seem to conduct yourself personaly like a conservative. There is some hope for you . Sorry for calling you out. It was mostly for sport. I know you well enough that I think you can take it and dish it right back. Sad to hear you have such a leech on your hands. He probably will never understand how rotten he makes things for himself. Dave. |

That's the largest problem in this country. Everyone thinks they are "entitled" to a standard of living without having to work for it. People have no shame exploiting others. There is no pride in accomplishment anymore. And the mention of doing "work that I don't really want to do" really drives me insane. I'd say 90+% of people don't do something they really enjoy. They do it to provide for their families. Nobody is entitled to have the "perfect" job. I really struggle on who to place the blame on... -Is it the people of America who have no shame in exploiting others? -Is it the Gov't who enable this type of behavior with faulty programs that are exploited easily? -Is it poor parenting that has failed to teach the most basic/important values? |

Wow. I hope you are ready for this. I would like the gov to stop pampering people. If you need assistance, you have 90 days. After that, the gov takes your *************** and you go into group living. Open barracks style with bunk beds and a chow line twice a day for food. No TV, no privacy, no comfort. I don't see why people on welfare/extended unemployment can't live under the same conditions as the military. We make it way too comfortable to be on public assistance /in prison. My other idea for the prisons is to build a huge wall with guard towers every 1000 yards about a mile from the boarder, if you are crossing, you will be identified as a terrorist trying to invade. Were would those boarder troops come from? No more military deployments. I used to deploy every other year in the Marines. Boarder duty would be a cake walk compared to that. Quit worrying about the rest of the world. If we could bring deployed troops home, foriegn bases closed, and turn our country into a self sustaining country we could prosper above all. Another idea with that would be to section off a huge mass of land on the boarder to send all our violent or multiple conviciton prisoners. "Here you go, check backin in 5 years when your sentence is up. If you don't like it, the boarder is open into Mexico." I know some of this might sound a bit crazy, and a lot of it could be taylored to work just fine, but thats the JarHead in me.

On the other hand you can get so irritated over it that you want your share as well. If you have paid in for years and suddenly your out you can feel entitled to your share. Everyday you read or see on TV how the government is taking more from you and just giving it to those with no interest in working, or coming here just for the benefits and getting more and more day after day. Eventually you find yourself thinking hey, why not me? maybe I should take time off and let the government supprt me too.

Understandable, totally. On the other hand, two wrongs don't make a right. I don't so much look at it as wanting my share back, but quit taking it from me (also works with marriage, lol, don't get even, move forward). How do you equate fair share? I don't personally feel I'm obligated to any special treatment, or bennefits, just because I served in the military. Yet I see some vets who make it seem like they should have a red carpet laid out for them. (Just one example of people trying to get what they "deserve") These are great topics that can generate really great discussions. I do have to admit my tendancy to play Devil's Advocat though, for further referenc.

You're absolutely right and that's definitely a huge issue. Look at the last 9 months. Who gets a lot of the incentives (bailouts)? I would say that typically these bailout/incentive programs have been aimed at the people who were highly responsible for getting the economy into this mess in the first place... What does the average "economically/financially responsible" citizen get out of all of this? Not a lot, because most of us aren't in terrible shape due to being responsible and not strapping ourselves so tight that any glitch in the economy sinks us. So when we see others getting their "stimuli", sure it makes you want your piece of the pie as well. ***As a disclaimer, in no way do I think that absolutely everyone that has received some sort of benefit is "irresponsible and/or taking advantage of the system. Some people have fallen on hard times. |

Thanks, When I saw it advertised I told my wife I'm going up there to buy it. It's got just enough black to be cool without it being a pain.
As for venting, well that's about all we can do because it is out of hands and you don't really want to get me started on what I think about our government. It really astounds me as to how we let them get that much power. Besides, someone might send my comments to flag@washington.gov |

Hey Eric, Dispite my stong leanings, I actually believe we need both sides to balance each other out, It is the lack of balance in this current "Obama Nation" ( I coined it here first!) that has me a little on edge. It is just a little to easy to railroad things through. I am also one to take the other side of an argument and run with it just for sport, People make bold statments often without thinking them through, I like to get to their reasoning and see if their statements holdup. Answers are illusive but the discussions are important. Dave.

god damn, if you guys are this worried now, you had to lose alot of sleep during the past 8 years. The GOP keeps biting off thier nose despite thier face, they lost all control and they are PO'd.
these are ground rooted thoughts, and not brainwashed media thoughts that are out out there by the likes of Ted Turner, or Rush or any of the other guy's, respectable yes, I can really give 2 shts about what goes on because its going to happen anyway, I just hate being lied to and try to see things for what they really are. like i said earlier, they make you concentrate on a radiacl group that blows up towers and it creates more hate in this world, but in are own back yard, they blow up are own buildings (Ok city) that too was a group effort, going after that group has no finacial gain...and you never hear about it. I see things for what they are. Like Peter Griffen says at the end of his show "If you dont like the bad language, turn off the TV" |

a big problem these guy's are having is they are geared to make 30.00 an hour pushing a punch press button, get layed off and have zero ability or skill.. |

I think it's actually
flag@whitehouse.gov That should turn up some hits. Seems to be some sort of "Snitch" account set up by the whitehouse to keep tabs on people who speak "falsely" of the healthcare overhaul. |
