This summer a soft spot or two have developed on the floor next to the motor box on the pass side. I've been reading quite a few stringer replacement threads since I'm guessing this project is in my near future. One thing that's not 100% clear, though- Tell me if I'm correct here- the only plywood on the floor is the removable piece behind the motor, and the rest of the floor is all glass over foam with no plywood? I always assumed the entire floor (other than behind the motor) was glass over plywood, but the more I read the more I think it's glass over foam. Set me straight please! I may tackle this project this winter. I didn't realize what a popular project this was until I started reading these posts!

Fun - From the front of the engine to the transom, the floor is glass over foam. From the engine to the bow, it is plywood. I don't think there is any glass over the plywood, but could be wrong on that. So if your soft spot is astern of the engine front, then your foam is starting to degrade. Some guys have fixed that by itself, but if your '86 has never had the floor opened up, you most likely will find the proverbial can of worms when you get into it.

Actually, on a Ski Nautique, the wood in the floor runs from the front of the motorbox to the rear of the battery box... and it is indeed covered with glass. |

Tim is exactly right. This is the only wood in the floor and it's 1x8's and 1x10's no plywood.

If your foam is wet you will be amazed how much weight you get rid of when you take it out. The project is a big one but dont let it scare you and you will do fine.
