Has anyone painted a carburetor? Mine is looking kind of crusty after 22 years and since I have to rebuild it I thought about painting the outside, or maybe some kind of clear coat, maybe laquer. Chime in and tell me what you think, especially if it sounds stupid.

Take it to a garage that has a pot/vat which they can dip/soak it in a special chemical. Had my old one done several years ago and it looked new after it was done. There is a special silver paint which can be put on carbs, alot of refurbished ones get repainted.

I did the chemical dip but it isn't like new. I thought maybe a little color might dress things up some. I'll check with the local auto paint store.

Check out this link: Carb Renue These new products are supposed to make a rebuilt (Chemical dipped) carb look exactly like a new one.

Powder coating works very well. The guy that polished my exhaust, and has done quite a lot of work on my automotive parts, has a powdercoat line. He does alot of centers, and uses chrome bowls, they look awesome!

Bob, you can paint the carb and it don't have to be that complicated. I've got a mercruiser inboard that has the carb painted and 9 years later it still looks great. Mercruiser "spray bombs" the entire motor at the factory.
anyway, the best paint I have found for something like that is "RUST-OLEUM PROFESSIONAL - HI PERFORMANCE ENAMEL" I buy it at Lowe's and you can buy it in spray can, quart or gallon and it works great. Make sure you get the carb good and clean of any oils and you want have any problems. |

Scomer, sounds like we have a wiener here. I'll give it a try since I have it all cleaned up. Got a digital camera recently so maybe I can post some pics.
