I found out yesterday that my gramma broke her hip. My Dad and Aunt were meeting with the doctors to decide the next step. She's 96 years old and she is definitely high risk for surgery. I talked to my Mom this morning and they decided yesterday to do the surgery. The docs are worried about gangrene if they don't do it. Her break is actually at the top of the femur, so they're going to do some straps and small rods to help hold it together.
Please keep her and my family in your prayers. She's lived a long life and is a wonderful woman...a matriarch in our family. One part of me says its time for her to go be in heaven with grampa, her husband of 65 years that she misses dearly. The other part of me would miss her. |

Whatever the case, it's in His hands. I'd be happy to add the family to my prayer list. Would you care to add a last name?

I wish the best for her, it's a serious issue and a hard one to over come at her age and the type of fracture. Time is short so make the best of the time you have to spend with her. God bless her and the rest of your family.

My mother-in-law Grace went thru this a few years ago. They did the surgery and she moved down here to Florida with us. The changes it brought to her life did take her but it was a Blessing for us to be with her thru to the time when she was called home. Your Gramma and your family will be in our prayers Okie.

Well the surgery was done late yesterday. I talked to my Mom this morning and she said it went fairly well. They had to put a large rod and several small pins in her femur to help hold it together. The doctors feel confident they have made an improvement and they are hoping to get her out of bed walking around a little today (My Mom and I both chuckled at that one a little bit...my Gramma is a little stubborn in her old age). It sounds like she is in some pain, but not unbearable.
Hopefully things will go well and she'll have a little mobility when this is all done. That would sure be a blessing for her. Please continue to keep her in your prayers for comfort and recovery. Also, keep my family in your prayers. Dealing with all of this sure takes a lot out of my parents and my Aunt & Uncle. |

I may be able to keep her off the skateboards, but there's no way she's gonna quit her walker freestyle competitions.

Eric,
You aren't kidding man! It is so cool to sit and talk to her about her younger years. She is suffering from dymentia, so she doesn't realize I'm out of college already sometimes, but she sure can tell you about the good ol days. They got my gramma out of bed and sitting in a chair yesterday. That's pretty good progress if you ask me. Sounds like they're doing well keeping her pain managed, as well. She's allergic to just about everything that helps with pain, so it isn't easy. |

Gramma is at a rehab facility 24/7 with her in home caregiver spending most of the daytime hours with her. They are working to get her a little mobility. She still isn't really "walking" yet, but they are keeping her from being immobile. We'll see how things go from here.
