I am in need of a replacement rudder for my 1976 20' southwind. We had an unfortunate experience in the lake. The rudder dropped out while running and I have no owners manual to indicate what part number(s) I am missing.

I am looking for any help to locate a rudder and all associated bushings, seals, fasteners, and installation instructions.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome Bob. Here's a link to the original supplier but you'll have to wait for another member with a Southwind to respond with the size you'll need as I don't believe the supplier will know.

Bob;

I also have a Southwind, but, I don't know the part # for the rudder. You should call Bruce at N3 Boatworks in Indianapolois. He should be able to help you out. He's a long time Correct Craft parts man.

However, the MOST important thing to do when you get the new rudder on, is to make sure you attach the stainless steel saftey wire in the nut that holds the rudder on, and wrap it around the rudder so it can't vibrate out.

I had this happen on my '87 Martinique. I forgot to put the safety wire back on after working on the rudder port. Not a fun experience!!

A 20' SW will take the same common 11A Correct Craft rudder as most of the larger boats. Everything from the 2nd gen (1970+) Ski Nautique up to the current model, most of the v-hulls (BFN, SW) used that rudder. That should help your chances of finding a used one. Just avoid a rudder from one of the smaller boats (Mustang, Ski Tique, Skier, etc).

I'm considering parting out a 1970 Wildcat. Not sure if these rudders are the same?
