I finally got my winter project done a few weeks ago, and wanted to post some pictures.

My goal was to make a half-way decent looking interior, and do it myself to save money. I bought an old 1978 Singer household-type sewing machine on ebay (certainly the wrong machine for this project), some sheet vinyl stock at a marine supply house, and started sewing.

Eight months and a few stitched fingers later, here are the results. Not perfect by a long shot, but, not bad for a guy that didn't know which end of the sewing machine to hold...

I will miss my olive green Recaro racing buckets seats:), but, they were more useful than the old bench style seat the boat came with.

Lakeside just did his interior, and it looks gorgeous!! Any other upholstery projects in the works, or completed? Lets see 'em!!

If you have never sewn before, I think your results look very, very good. BKH

Yeah, that upholstery job looks very much like mine, aka VERY NICE!!! The guy that did mine has about 35 years of experience with upholstery.   that is an awesome job.

Not bad Dave!!!! Yes, for someone just picking up a old machine and some vinyl, looks great!! I too have seen "professional" jobs that don't look as good as yours.

Yep Dave. You're a braver soul than I am. I've hanging around here too long as Pete has rubbed off on me. I'm one of those "keep it original guys" but I gotta say I like the new look.

I have tried sewing vinyl on standard machines, it just does not work, except in your case. looks great. I applaud the effort. You can kinda see my effort on my profile shot. There are reasons to not take close ups.I have a WWII vintage industrial machine, no reverse but it will sew through 1/4 inch plywood forward.
For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

Wow, What a world of difference in that boat over the last couple of years Dave.

Lots of great work with a very low budget, I should be taking notes!!!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the kind words. The upholstery thing is a bit of a challenge, but rewarding when done. I am now thinking of trying to sew a cockpit cover for the boat. Oh well, that will be next winters project.

Now, I just need to get out and use the boat instead of working on it all the time!!

It may not be original, but the plain upholstery job that was original can't hold a candle to work like that. Had that been an option, that would have been nice.
