Surely this topic has been covered but here it goes:

A 78 Ski Tique starter ran if battery was connected.
Did some, but maybe not enough, research on this wonderful site.
Replaced solenoid and starter, fuel lines and filter.
Have a spark at the plug.
Fuel appears to flow.
Still no start.
Maybe I have the wrong starter.
Pulleys and rotor turn clockwise.(This may be the key indicator that something is wrong)
You advice is welcomed.

I found this on skidim.com

STARTER, PM, RH FORD 302/351
"New" right hand engine rotation permanent magnent starter.
Most Correct Craft thru 1988 and a few up to 1993 with 1:1 transmission.

Makes me think I need a right hand starter.

Will,
Don't tell me you went to Autozone for the starter!!!! Looking at the front of the engine, it should turn counterclockwise. You have a RH engine and it sure sounds like the wrong rotation starter.

BTW, tell me where did you get the starter.

So I am right. I have the wrong starter. I did not get it at Autozone, but at Advanced Auto and they probably do not have the one I need and they probably shipped off my old starter by now.

Thank you sir for your quick reply.

Ugh, try to get that starter back asap.

It's a marinized version in addition to being a different direction.

It might need to be rebuilt, but the wrong rotation starter won't work for this application, and then there is the marine starter issue.

See if Advance will take it back, and give you the core back. You typically have a few days to a week or so before the cores get sent out.

Otherwise, you will need to buy a new marinized starter that spins the right way.

Will,
Welcome to CCfan. It's great you found us. If you've been around for awhile and just new to posting you know the wealth of knowledge here on site and with the members. If you are brand new then take some time and explore the site.

Make sure you get some pictures and a short story about yourself and the boat submitted for the diaries section. There's a application icon to click on. Keith the site owner/administrator will get you up in the diaries in a couple days. We always love to see new members added to that section.

Feel free to ask anything keeping in mind there never is a dumb question. There's always someone around to help out. Some may give you some "heat" If it's truly a dumb question but even that is usually in jest!!! Again, welcome.

Will,
To clarify Tom's comment, the marine is "ignition protected". From a safety standpoint, be very careful of what parts you put on that engine. Ask us first on a planned project.

Thanks you guys.
The starter is hopelessly lost in the warehouses of advanced auto. So I will consider this an education.
It seems like skidim.com is a good place to get a replacement. They are a little too far away to go and pick up the part, but that's possible.

So far the parts people I have spoken to locally want to see the starter. so I have to tell them the sad story. And I should have known that their was a marine version starter. I hope the solenoid I got from advanced is OK.

From now on I will come here and ask lots of questions before trying to do anything else on the boat.

This website has been a good resouce for me for a little while. My boat is listed for sale here:
http://www.correctcraftfan.com/forsale/details.asp?ID=4193&sort=&pagenum=1

I will work on a diary soon. I have already looked at diary Peter; nice little boats you have there.
I might be inspired to take my boat off the market if a see much more.

Will,
Too bad you turned the old starter in for the core. I always recommend ether opening them up yourself and do a clean up on the commutator or taking them into a "auto electric" shop for a look. Starters are really quite tough with heavy copper in them. When you get a rebuild, 9 out of 10 times the starter is just cleaned up, commutator resurfaced, new brushes and maybe the shaft bushings replaced.
