    Posted: August-08-2010 at 7:08pm
I have a 1979 Correct Craft Ski Nautique and I need the rear seat. I don't care about condition as long as it is repairable, as soon as I find one, I am going to have all the seats recovered.

Please email, skype or reply.

Patrick,
In a 79, all the aft seat consisted of was a thick block of about 8" of upholstered foam and a 2" upholstered foam back. There's really no "seat"!!!

You had better post some picture of what you're dealing with!! show us what's going on!!

Welcome to CCfan.

BTW, don't plan on sticking extra people back there! You have a ski boat that's designed for a driver and observer. If beyond that, you have got the wrong boat! Sorry!!

Like Pete said. The bottom of the seat just sits on the floor and the back section had a flap at the top ( 1 1/2 to 2" ) that sanapped onto the deck behind it to hold it in place. There is no "framework"

Thanks for the comments and welcome.

My wife purchased this boat shes the second owner and it has been at her family cabin up until now. We have been using it as a ski boat since 1986. We brought it home this summer and have on a few occasions had as many as six on the the boat, which is great on a nice calm night just to cruise, but three people are stuck without seating so we want a rear "foam cushion" for the boat. I went and looked at one tonight another owner has and took some pictures. His doesn't appear to have ever been attached at the base, which is great since we can remove the base to ski. I am hoping to find one that I can recover when we do the rest of the seats at the end of summer. I'll post a picture of the boat, we had it completely redone in 2005, just didn't do the seats. ANYONE HAVE A BACK BENCH (backrest and seat) FOR SALE?

Patrick,
You're going to be reupholstering so just go get the foam. You've got the pictures.

BTW, on the bottom, there are straps with snaps that snap to the floor.

Has anyone done this?

I'm thinking of buying the seat brackets and making a back bench. I would make it as wide as possible and the backrest would be no higher than the rear fiberglass.

The biggest benefit is that I can store stuff under it.

Sort of. No need for seat brackets though. I would keep the original design of the seat back cushion (snaps to the deck) and just make a base for the bottom cushion to sit on. By going to a thinner cushion, you open up the space underneath. If you hinge either the cushion itself, or the entire base, it would be easy to access your new storage area.

I built mine out of 2x6's and ply, then carpeted it to match the boat.

This is what I came up with. Made out of 3/4 inch plywood with storage below. It also houses my speakers. My plan was to have a seat and back cushion made when I redid the other seats. This is really sturdy and is shaped with a slight curve that perfectly matches the aft wall. I need to hide the wires this weekend.

Yes, we went out last night for an hour or so for a boat box dinner. I'll hate to see it go.

Patrick that looks great! I would like to copy it for my boat which is missing the bottom cushion.
If you have any more pics or plans could you e-mail them?

Here are some more photos and a rough drawing. I had the support smaller than the top for looks. My thought was to put a matching seat cushion and backrest on which is why it is "lower" than the sidewalls. I was going to make the cushion flush with the top of the sidewalls. For now, we were just using floating seat cushions. This is made out of marine grade 3/4 inch plywood. I ordered it from Menards, took a week and cost $68. The parts are glued and screwed together. Carpeted and waiting for vinyl cushions. It isn't that heavy and can be moved (not mounted to the boat) for boat work/repair. It is really strong and sturdy, we had three adults jumping on it before we put it in and it didn't move. The speaker placement is really nice, you can hear them in the front better than the front speakers facing sideways, and they produce pretty good bass, for inexpensive speakers because of the air cavity behind them. It also makes getting in and out the back much easier. I think for a modification it is one of the best, and if the new owner doesn't like it, he can take it out without leaving a mark on the boat.
