Hi everyone,

I have a sweet 83 Ski with the standard 351. It runs @ 43 mph and 39-40 with a barefooter behind her. I need to get 5 to 8 mph more for the very hard water that I like.

Is there any way to amp up the 351 for a few extra mph without digging in to deep? I currently have the ACME-540 Three Blade.

Thank you,

Titanjets

8mph might be pushing it but 5mph should be easily doable for $1500 or a little less. A good head/cam/intake combo should add about 80hp and make that boat an even better skiing machine. The proven 351w recipe around here involves GT40p heads, an Edelbrock Performer intake and a Cam Research cam.

Did you notice Titan's address. He's got some neighbors that could probably help him out.

Aviation related handle…Thank you for the performance info…

With the cam replacement, is that a major engine teardown?

Not a to a tough job, it is better if the motor can come out of the boat and get set on a skid or motor stand, But if you choose to do it in the boat the pylon will have to be removed and that one could be chore in it's self, But all and all provided you have all the tools and new parts and associated other materials one could pull it out of the boat in the morning and go skiing in the afternoon.
However if you have never done this before then it would be good to either read up on it, I am sure some one has documented this typ of work on this forum or bring in a specialist to help you out.

You'd better believe it! Race City Marine (your new local Nautique dealer) loves to make Correct Crafts run faster and could help you out, IF you needed someone to perform the work for you, and CCFan folks do get the neighborhood price. We have the GT40P heads in stock right now as well. You can call me at 704-451-5080 if you like. Everything said above is spot on by the way in terms of achieving your goals.

Of course Bruce, but not for a cam, heads, and intake swap. Oh, but I guess we could ship the parts.

This boat was and is garage kept. Pre-purchase inspection showed dry foam and a solid floor. A big factor in my decision to purchase. Boat doesn’t see much sunlight.

Why not? Have them UPS the engine, you replace the parts and ship it back.

When I owned my blow boat marina A guy at a boat show asked if we could fix a hole in his Sunfish. I said sure no problem. He asked if he needed to bring me the boat? With a straight face I said no, just send me the hole and we'll fix it and send it right back to you. The guy I was with had his milkshake comming out his nose trying to contain himself. The Sunfish guy walked about 10 steps turned smiled and said, Hey you were kidding weren't you? Then we all lost it.
