I was talking to a broker the other day, foreigners are encouraged to purchase US businesses, it means a free easy access Visa....not card, and correct me if im wrong, they are tax deferred for i believe 7? years. at that point the business is switched into brother Habeebs name. thats why you see every corner store, hotel, and smaller gas stations with the owners a push button or a pull cord (red dot/turbine). im gonna cross a line here and say the AA's are a part of American history, I claim to not be a racist, But.....
I was on dead empty yesterday in my car, i refused to pull into BP and my wife explained why to the kids, i chanced it and drove to the locally owned gas station once again, awareness is key and a simple everyday choice by the consumer will help, the government CANNOT control your everyday decisions. here is a solution, find a locally owned gas station and if you have to go out of your way to fill up there.. there are just to many incentives to draw others into this country, take away the incentives, they will leave |

My inlaws live in London, and are British citizens. It took my wife 10 years and a lawyer to get them paper work to be able to come to America to visit us and the grandchildren whenever they like. (green card) It will take up to another 10 for her brother to be able to do the same.
Those from our southern borders are being offered amnnesty by our our government. When I walk into a local Kmart I have to push the door to open it yet if I want to entrada the door opens automatically. McDonalds has everything written in English and Spanish. I have nothing against Hispanics but, The French, Polish, Italian, Indian, Japanse, Chinese, Korean etc etc don't have this courtesy. Our President has just arrived in India with a large group of American businessmen to promote American business with India. Isn't this one of the same areas we have outsourced many of our American business to. Most of these ethnic owned businesses in America (convienience stores, gas stations) are cash businesses, where it can be easy to hide alot from the taxman. They are also putting their whole families to work as these places are open long hours. At least they are not lazy and milking the system for what it is worth. No real point here just my $.02 |

It is problably from the old country. When I was a kid in grammer school we had to put our glass milk bottles on the radiator to warm up. I never figured that one out. It tasted like yuk!

Yeah, you can thank Walmart for that. We have a bunch of locally owned gas stations around this state. i go to as many as I can. The one up north I go to recently has turned a bit too hippie-ish and don't take anything but cash now. I suspect they would take some locally grown crops though as payment. LOL |

The facts are few others want to own a business where you basically have to live in the store 24/7 to make a profit. What businesses do immigrants own.. dunkin donuts.. 24/7, quickemarts.. 24/7, motel 8... 24/7. Move the family in, work together and eek out a living, save enough to loan out to the next generation while putting your kids through school. It is the American Dream, you work hard and prosper. My grandparents (and thier kids serving as free labor) did it in restuarants/catering on one side and in a shoe store on the other. Back then it was the dirty micks right off the boat ruining the country.. I guess today it is the "hogies".
If you got problems with the tax laws, complain about the tax laws. If you got problems with people coming to the country to work hard and prosper then you sir are bad mouthing the free market system, and if you are bad mouthing the free market system are you not in fact bad mouthing america itself, and I will not stand here and have you bad mouth america... (that's not to anyone in particular I just like to fall into the Animal House defense as often as possible). |

Well said, These immigrants are coming to live the American dream and are willing to work, and work hard for it. I do beleive (and it is only my opinion) that those entering from our southern borders illegaly are being given an unfair advantage over people going through the proper chanels to come here. That is my basic problem with the democrates. They want to give all a piece of the pie and too often it is to folks that just stand in line for pie but are not willing to do the dishes. (so to speak) This is at a cost to the rest of us, not just the rich and it can be a serious burden to folks that work hard and struggle only to see some none working folks better off because of these handouts. Like heathcare. Sure they can offer it to 30,000 people that didn't have it but the cost of doing this (rates, employers eliminating it for workers etc) is going to make 100,000 people loose heathcare and drive up the costs for 100.000's more. Nice idea but wrong approach. I don't have the answers, I am not a politition, but I can see when progress actually puts us one step backwards. I do not pretend that one party is better than another, and I think that both should be focussing on the present and not worrying so much about who will be the winners next election. |

I live in a refugee host city and we have had waves of immigrants come in since the '70's. There's more than 20 languages spoken in our schools. Pretty interesting to see what they do/do not accomplish and how they do/do not assimilate. Some groups really go for it and some don't.
Peter, used to in Maine that someone mixing up their Irish heritage was a cosmopolitan as it got. |

LOL gary, too much acid in the 60's
Lets flip the coin on this one, lets say my name is Hodgie from a foriegn land, and another country is offering tax deffered businesses, you can work and not pay a dime in federal taxes, you got 7 years, leave your family (no values) Yes, I have to work hard in my country to put food on the table, but in this other country I can work the same hours but for 20 times more the pay, no taxes which even means more that I can create a vacuum. bundle all this money up and send it oversea's so my family wont struggle and can eat steak again. Now, me "Hodgie" is as nice as he can be to the American consumer because after all he is taking your money and snickering because he doesnt have to pay a dime in personal income. As most across the world really do hate Americans, Hodgie is no different. Moral of the story, Are we a beacon of the world or are we just a big bank? at the end of the day, Hodgie is going home. |
