It is on the plate of an old Velvet Drive. 1772 is stamped in the box under "Model". It an old transmission.

Jodi, I would highly recommend buying that Crossover, I took it back into Cleveland yesterday, about a 20 mile drive, these kids came up on me in a SI civic, I hit 110 and left them in the dust, I consider that car a high end car at a bargain price, I was told it sits on a viper frame???? I backed down, but it had alot to go.

Jodi, got a white crossover in, was able to take that one for a spin....i really thought i was driving a Mercedes, the only other car that i could hit 60 in the turns on the country road i take home was that old 944, the CO didnt even flinch in those turns, A-Plus, the ugliness of that back end is growing on me.

No typo they tested one at the AWSA Towboat tests in Oct in a ski 200, Actually on the AWSA apporved towboat list it shows ZR-450 and not 449.
I will see one on thursday as I am headed to the factory for some development work and warmer weather.
Hobby Boats can be expensive when the hobbyist is limited on their own skill and expertise.

needless to say, you couldnt put a big enough prop under that boat to tear up a Borg or a PCM 1:1 trans, so the choice is yours

put a bigger prop on that tin can and see what happens......they can handle all the horsepower you can throw at them, just cant handle a bigger prop to get some speed.
alot depends on application, one must understand on a ski boat, if you have for instance a 13 13 on there, whether you have 300 horse in front of it of 600 horse in front of it, it will do identically the same thing at the same RPMS. now if you want to take that boat and go 80 mph with it, you need horse and prop, this is where the capacities of the transmissions come into play.
I have many 800 horse borgies out there pushing boats over the 100 mph mark, could this be done with a PCM 1:1? Not even possible

I can only go off my experiances with all three units Warner71,72 and the PCM.
Their is no doubt that the Warner 72-C is the bull of the small marine transmission world. I plan on utilizing one of those in my Fish Nautique power train. However I considered the warner 71 in my sprint boat and decided to utilize the PCM instead. much lighter weight and in my experiances a better service record then that of the Warner. After working with the PCM equipment for over 20 years I would have no problem recomending the PCM for a big block up to 500hp and 500 ft pounds of torque, PCM seems to have done well with it in their Python years and now they are coupling that same basic transmission up to their new 449hp six liter. We utilized it with the supercharged program and those motors were over 500 hp. In the last 20 years with Correct Craft I cant think on any programs prior to 92 that had the amount of power ratings that we are currently utilizing in these boats, Again with the 1:1 PCM.

I will get into Eric's arena here so please feel free to correct me, but I think you could put either BW or PCM 1:1 transmision, the thing is what prop you're planning to use.
That what defines if you need the 71 or the 72 series on the BW. No idea what torque the PCM can handle.

Here is one on e-bay but I would not look at it for more than a core.

It looks also to be a 71-C, I would think that if you are set on a Borg then you would want a 72-C.
On the other side of the spectrum I have had great success with a PCM 1:1 that I have mounted to a 502 Chevy, five years and lots of 70 plus MPH passes and no problems. The gear is much lighter and for my .02 worth it has held up well.

Looking for a Velvet Drive to handle 500hp behind a Left Hand rotation (standard automotive) Chrysler 440. I am building a 500hp M440 and need a Velvet Drive to handle the power.
