I am attempting to restore what appears to be a mid 1950s wooden CorrectCraft. It measures 15'6". It has a GrayMarine Phantom 112 for power. I am the third owner. It reportedly belonged to Cypress Gardens in the 1950s. I cannot locate a hull number. The title lists the length as 17'6". Can anyone tell me where the hull # is located on this boat? Is there a website where I can research and determine the history of this boat?

Welcome Jerome. You have already located the site to do your research. If you can find your serial that will be a good start since that will more than likely tell you the model, but that has proved wrong sometimes too. Then you can get your info to Nautiques and they will eventually look it up. In the mean time post some pictures. Pete and Billy are our resident wood experts,Pete is on vacation and Billy will show up soon. Every Correct Craft is a Cypress Gardens boat just as every old violin is a Stradivarius. Look up top by the banner, there is a reference section, maybe you can find it there.

Gary,
Thank you for the reply. I agree with the Cypress Gardens thing. However, I find it curious that such a small craft would be powered by such a large, heavy engine in terms of both weight and hp. The hull appears to have been shortened, but need to verify. There is also this situation with the title showing a length of 17.5 ft as opposed to the actual hull length. It seems plausible, under these conditions, that it was used as a ski boat somewhere. It seems to me that there just wouldn't be enough displacement to carry more than two people. As for photos, I hope to get some online soon. It's a real basket case due to a someone's bad attempt at plank repair/replacement. |

Jerome,
Yes, we need pictures but also keep in mind I'm in the Chicago area as well and could come and see the boat. Where are you exactly? Don't worry about the length, it's displacement and it's capacity to pull skiers. The most popular CC ski hull from the late 40's and 50's is the Atom. The first hull version is on;y 14'6". The Atom WILL pull 4 skiers just like the old pictures show. It will also pull a slalom skier at about 34MPH. Are you used to larger ski boats? Welcome to CCfan - you found the one and only place to help you out with your project. BTW, it sounds like you may have a Aqua Skier and, as mentioned, every old CC was used at Cypress Gardens!! Look for the hull plate on one of the hull side frames or inside the dog house (engine enclosure). It looks like this: |
