I was just wondering..... How many nautiques do you see on the lake that you frequent? I was just cruising the shoreline making a lap on my lake the other day and was amazed at how many correct crafts/nautiques there where in the water or on shore stations. Everything from a new sv-211, a silver nautique, to older wooden hauled models, threre's a couple dozen or so 70's-80's models alone, most in pretty good shape, there is at least one every 200 feet and close to 100 or more total.
Lake Wawassee is in north central Indiana and is a natural lake which is somewhat shallow compared to most. And inboards are extremely popular even among the larger cruiser on the lake. Now the water is pretty choppy on the week-ends but if you ever have a chance to visit during the week the waters awsome and you'll see an example from almost every model/year correct craft from the past 40-50 yrs. |

There are a lot of Nautiques (as well as many other Correct Craft models) on my lake. Probably due to the fact it is the home of Mid-Atlantic Correct Craft (Speculator, NY on beautiful Lake Pleasant) and a vacation home of Walt Meloon...

There are probably 50 + on Lake Wylie in Charlotte NC where I live , Various models and years . I Met a guy at the gas station last Saturday that owns a nice Body Glove edition
Ski Nautique , I handed him a card with the correct craft fan site info and told him to submit some pictures . I pass it on as much as I can , when ever I see another correct craft owner . Mike |

I think I saw ONE on little Cayuta lake NY. There was also a Mastercraft at one cottage. Mostly pontoons and gayliners around there. I was impressed. The Nautique even had a tower. I am sure I will see them out. The lake is small, shallow and out in the boonies, where I live. Mostly fishermen frequent it. I figured it would be a great place to "shred" and usually, we are the only boat out there. cant beat that!

Morse Reservoir, in Noblesville, Indiana, has about twenty CC's on it. Most of them are 80's Ski Nautiques, but there are a few from the 90's. There are three ski boats out most mornings from 6~7:30, and one of them is a 90's SN. There's going to be one more next season though, my 1974 Mustang 17 that I just bought today.

Lake Lemon, Unionville,IN
Quite a few Nautiques, 4 or 5 old ones (mine's a 77), 6 or 8 from the 80's and 90's and a few new ones. Even a Hydradyne! Anyone familiar with those? By the way "79", I used to visit Wawassee back in the early 70's. A good friend had a cottage there and we used to go up in the summer when we were in High School and ski behind there old woody Chris Craft. What a blast! |

Norris Lake; Maynardville TN. Not to many up at our end. Lots of "brand X star" as they are made close by. My '80 always creates a stir when I fire her up at the dock....jbear

At our lake here in the Kansas City area there's a lot of MC's and maybe 4 or 5 Ski Nautiques. Our 1969 SN is the oldest by 18 years, we sure get asked a lot about it.

Speaking of Wawasee, I found out today that the 74 Mustang I just bought spent its first 20 years there.

Lake Austin here in Austin, TX (go figure) we see quite a few old nautiques. The 60's are pretty rare, but not uncommon to see an 80's model. We got our '88 in April and it's nice to see so many old nautiques on the water. It's not just that one guy that got lucky...if your boat's been taken care of, there's no reason it shouldn't be out on the water whenever you want to be.

I agree , White Lake and Bay Tree are nice
My 1979 Mustang came from White lake . I prefer a medium sized lake with finger coves to block wind and make better wakeboard and slalom runs . I live on Lake Wylie in Charlotte , NC . I have lived all 35 of my years there and it is now starting to get over developed all around the area , The cove where our Slalom course is located , Has had no home or docks in it , Now they are getting ready to put condos in there Mike |

I live in the CA Delta, with 1100 miles of waterways. Only an hour's drive from San Francisco or San Jose, with waterways extending to Sacramento, Stockton, and Napa. In addition, Larson Marine, last year's biggest seller of Nautiques is on the water. So, we see a lot of Nautiques out here. On any given weekend, could probably see at least 40 or 50 on the water. 3 out of 10 household on my court have Nautiques (4th moved out a couple of years ago). Don't see as many of the classics, but tons of 81 and newer boats.

Lake Waccamaw, NC about 25 miles south of White Lake, both are Carolina Bays, but Lake Waccamaw is 9,000 acres, oval and brown water from the tanic acid from leaves. When I bought my CC, there were about 5 inboards on the whole lake. Now, I would guess about 20 CC's with two tige's and one ski centurian and three malibu's.

Lake James/Snow Lake chain in Indiana has 400-500 CC's out of perhaps 2500 cottages. I would attribute this to Midwest Correct Craft proximity and the Melloon families local reputation.

I live on Lake of the Ozarks. Nautiques were pretty popular back in the day. Now the big thing is Fountain power boats and Carver yachts. Still hundreds of Nautiques around.

Chris,
Interesting question - As you know we currently trailer and this year have seen most of the lakes in the NE corner (Indiana). If anything, I would say the numbers are holding steady and possibly declining. No disrespect to Shreadhead above, but I have never counted more than 100 Correct Crafts on James and Snow even throwing Jimmerson in for luck. Sylvan has held its own but mostly older boat among the permant folks. Clear has by far the highest CC to dock ratio and that isn't even close to 10%. George has more older boats but still not more than 50. Hamilton does not count and Crooked probably not more than 45 - 50. Big Long may have 10 or so. I think we are seeing a lot more off-lake owners especially among the younger crowd. Lake prices are still falsely inflated and not much is moving. We keep talking about trying to get over your way, still hope to before the season is over. Don |

Hey Brewski,
Where are you on the Lake of the Ozarks? I've been going down there for 45 years. Most of the inboards have disappeared around us, we're at the 10 mile marker. Chuck |

Hey The Lake~!
I am up the Gravois at the mouth of Indian Creek~! When you start back Indian creek I am on the right about a 1/4 mile. I have a single well dock and the HUGE C-Ban beige satallite. My house has lots of decking and is under re-construction. You may see my 71 GMC 3/4 ton, and the 68 GMC 1/2 ton burb in the drive. Swing buy anytime we'll rip up some water~! |

I agree there seems to be a little inflation for lake james, maybe that was with beer goggles. I hear it's a pretty good party and the girls show alot of flesh I'll have to check it out sometime, no disrespect to anyone but this has been some realy interesting thread and thanks for all of the stories. |

Brewski...The lake...we stopped at Lake of the Ozarks 2 years ago after buying a boat in Kansas...beautifull lake, but traffic was unbearable. We want to go back though(it's close enough to make a 3 day weekend)...when and where can you see less traffic? We keep going until late October. Really want to see more of the lake without the tiny ship being tossed!

Stang 72 & The Lake
After Labor Day the lake dies off pretty rapidly almost like a ghost town. The boat traffic becomes almost nothing. Where I live it is great skiing until around 10:00 am on any weekends all the time. If you all stay local to where I live there is lots of things to do without getting out in the main channel also. We should all get together and make a run up the lake or do some skiing here in my cove. Indian Creek is about 3 miles long and is realitively quiet. We have a private launch ramp. I have plenty of area to camp if your into that with a spare bath in the basement. I have 300' of rock ledge shoreline that makes a great place to ski from or just hang out. Once a year in the fall (usually end of Sept. early Oct. or when the leaves change. We go way up the lake (73-80mm)there is a nice winery (Big Buffalo Winery at Big Buffalo Cove) there is miles and miles of smooth water and small places to stay all along the way. We usually make the trip on a Sat. leave 8:00 am and return the same day but I am all for spending the night and getting more skiing and enjoying other parts of the lake. The Lake>> you got any ideas also lets here them I am sure we can come up with something~! Brewski* |

Brewski and Stang 72,
Anymore fall is my favorite time at the Lake of the Ozarks. The old days of skiing in the main channel in the summer are long gone. We are in Lynch Cove at the 10 mile marker, and yes early in the morning is the time for us to ski too. Brewski, I've been into the Niangua Arm and found some quiet water there also. I use my Ski Nautique primarily on a private lake, but I've been wanting to get it to The Lake sometime. Chuck |

Yeah I like the fall also. Lotsa good clean smooth water and not many FTs. Niangua/Little Niangua is where I bought my boat. It is nice water also but really far away from me. I go there once a year or so in the spring and fall also just to ski and check out different parts of the lake. Grand Glaize (french for the "big glass") was the greatest place to ski until they moved that F'n party cove up there now it the wost place to go. Anderson hollow (party cove) is where I had my slalom course many many moons ago. Great barefoot run from the back also. What a bite. Still go there every once and a while to get to Bucks Dock for those greasy moster burgers~! Probably nice still in the fall when the FT's are gone~!

I've seen quite a few when I've been out as well. Met one guy that had a beautiful custom embroidered interior in his '88. Said he knew of a group of nautiques that got together from time to time. In fact, I need to shoot him an email. Anyway, maybe I'll see you out sometime!! -Ryan |

On a very small lake (about 250 acres). Mostly retired folks with pontoon boats, and a dozen or so outboard or I/O open bows. I think there are about 5 ski boats, all CCs. There is my 75 Tique, and the rest are all mid to late 90s nautiques, an excel or two and 1 or two sports, but all CCs. (An old Malibu sneaks in from another lake now and then)

Sorry guys for the topic hijack, but I have to ask...
Bremsen - how does your high pole attach to the lift ring? I have a bimini very similar to yours & currently have to go around the very front of the bow to avoid rubbing though the sunbrella. My wife is about to have our first baby and with the 4 weeks I'm taking off work, I hope to do a number of 'improvements' to my 1980 SN |
