Winterized this past weekend and pulled RWP to remove impeller - disconnected hose from trans cooler and two impeller blades fell out - got pump off and removed cover and found the rest of the pieces. There were two more blades hanging by about 1/8" to 1/4" of blade left. Haven't run the pump dry and this impeller was put in new in the spring. If you don't check you might be sorry. I took the boat out for about 30minutes on the water so I could get it hot to change oil for lay-up and it didn't even get to summertime operating temp for a sustained drive around the lake, but I am sure this wouldn't have lasted too long so I am glad family was not in the boat for a day on the lake.

Glad you checked it. Where did you buy the impeller from? Makes you wonder how many years it might have been sitting on the parts dept shelf before you got it.

OEM or aftermarket makes a big difference too!! The OEM impeller is the way to go.

This surprises me. Something happened since you should have gotten years of service out of it.

Gary,
Unless Skidim is getting "knock-offs", the last Sherwood impellers I got from Jametown, had "made in the USA" on the packaging. The last one I got was for the Atom and that was just befor GL this year.

It was a Sherwood impeller in PCM packaging - still have the packaging for the part number info. The inside of impeller housing of pump is very smooth nothing out of th ordinary here and the outside blade edges are smooth it is cracking at the hub side. I am sure there could be alot of speculation, but I am just glad I caught it. Main reason for sharing was to let others out there know that it is good practice to check even if you think everything is OK. I was just lucky

A mechanic at White Lake told me this summer that they have seen more impellers rip loose the metal shaft from the rubber where the two are bonded together than they have seen blades breaking off. Must be some faulty impellers out there.
