I have discovered a technique for turning the boat around in a very narrow waterway. The boat turns very slowly 180 degrees almost in one spot. Pull slowly up to the spot where you want to turn around, turn the wheel all the way to the left and pull into a moderate to slow reverse. The rear of the boat begins to pull to the left from the prop wash and the momentum of the forward movement prevents the boat from backing up. As soon as the rear begins to move to the left, slip into forward while quickly turning the wheel all the way to the right and add a little throttle. The momemtum of the rear already moving to the left carries the boat completely around. The result is you do a 180 in place at very slow speed. It looks very cool IMHO and others are fooled into thinking you know what you are doing. This takes a little practice and applies to a reverse rotation engine only I'm sure.

Well, it works with other engines as well. You just turn the opposite direction

Jim:
I am surprised it took you so long to discover this technique I believe it just a matter of time before all DD boat operators learn this very usefull turning technique. A portion of this technique is useful when pull alongside a dock. |

Jim, Skidim's got the 10% discount that helps, and you can probably sell your old prop here or on ebay.
By the way I'm going to keep posting, even if my posts are stupid to get rid of the "Newbie" tag. |
