I've come across a damage 2000 Ski Nautique. Went down in a storm, and the electrical system used to start the engine isn't working. Does anyone have an idea of best case and worst case scenarios for a boat like this that spent about 24hrs 1/2 to 3/4 under water and then another day or two until it was fully drained. The engine is free of water now, but the huge unknown is the state of the electrical. I'm a noive looking for his first boat, any help and advice would be appreciated.

Worst case is that all the electrical's are toast including the engine electronics. Best case you get lucky for a few years before you start having to run down electrical gremlins.

Welcome aboard!
That may not be a great first boat. I suspect there is water soaked in where it shouldn't be, and I agree on the electrics. That wiring may have to be completely replaced, and getting it dry may involve pulling the floor. Do you know if the engine sat after it was drained or if they got it running right away? |

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Sounds like i should steer clear, i don't even like the best case MISkier put out there. I definetly don't want to be pulling up the floor to try to dry it out more. Apparently the boat was pulled out the next day (fresh water), drained, and then 2 days later they ran oil through the engine a couple times to get all the water out. It has not run since it went down. And even though the price has come down it has become apparent it is needs alot of money. and obviously I want to go skiing not end invest time and money i don't have. So now i need to find a good boat within my budget (6-8K). What year Nautique does my price range put me in?

Would it happen to be this boat? I thought about it as well and had a few discussions with the dealer. If it were purely cosmetic then It'd be a great deal. But most the running gear was ripped out and like mentioned before there are always going to be questions!

One in the same. On the plus side the trailer holds some value.

Look in the classified ads here to get an idea of what that kind of money will buy. I'd steer clear of a non-local boat with that much hull damage and the questionable "other" problems from the sinking. I'm sure you've scanned Craigslist locally? Not much in that range currently but something will come up if what is there happens not to be to your liking.
Happy to see another WA state member! |
