Off the elbow to the muffler is around 3-1/2ft & muffler to thru hull is 14". I had him cut 2 pieces @5ft each.

Did you get the hose yet? I just traded emails with the guy and he said its not corrugated hose- only wire reinforced. That isnt what I would use for the large bends coming off the manifolds- I prefer the corrugated. The part number he lists cross referenced to a corrugated hose on one site though... maybe he was wrong?
Hmmm, that length is interesting- I thought the mufflers were close to 48". |

This guy is certain that he doesnt have corrugated hose. Just to make sure we are on the same page, here is what corrugated looks like:
Hardwall (wire reinforced) and Softwall (not wire reinforced) are also available out there. Both appear smooth on the outside, like this: 
Obviously, Hardwall and Corrugated are not the same, though both are wire reinforced. Corrugated is much better at sharp bends. Youre sure you received corrugated? This guy says he only had 1 roll and sent you the same stuff. Somebody's confused! (Right now, its me!)

I am 99% certain that the stuff for sale is corrugated based on Noel's input... but since the seller offered to send me some close up pictures this evening, I am waiting to see them before pulling the trigger. I will report back with what I find!

A separate but related question:
Is there any advantage to using smooth wall, whether re-enforced or not, as far as flow characteristics? Or is it pretty negligible? I realize you have to use corrugated to make bends, but just wondering it's better to use smooth wall for the straight runs? |

Great now that we got that sorted out anyone know how much I need from riser to outlet on an 83 SN, mine is in storage for the winter. I was thinking of elliminating the mufflers and my hose is showing it's age. Was thinking of going with stainless but this is such a good deal it's hard to pass up.

I know that 7' per side was more than enough for our '79 BFN (454 with short risers). I took the chance and ordered 2 lengths of 6' for our '80 Ski Nautique (351w with long risers). If no one can provide an exact measurement, a call to White Lake or Woody may confirm how much you need.

What happened to using copper / stainless 3 in tubing in place of the mufflers?
I like the idea of using the corrugated rubber all the way back. Less joints to leak and maybe a lower exhaust tone. I have to open up the 86 in the next day or so. I’ll measure the length from the riser to the transom and post it here. |
