Last week I started hearing a chirpping sound coming from the rear of the boat...when going from idle to forward idle.was'nt happening with any consistancy? More present when I had a skier in the water(drag from the skier).
It sounded more like a rubber squeak...thats the beat I can describe it. If the stuffing box is too tight...could it sound that way? Perhaps the bushing in the strut? Nothing has happened that would cause the shaft to change alienment position... Got any suggestions what to look for? Thanks! |

If the stuffing box is cool, youre probably all set there. That noise youre describing is the same as what I had on mine. It sounded like a squeek that needed a shot of oil. After playing around and around, it ended up being the prop. It was slightly out of whack(didnt vibrate) and would resonate the shaft. It was the weirdest thing ever. If someone told me that, I would of told them "yeah right". My neighbors Ski Centurion had the similar type of noise and he thought he was gonna have to pull the tranny. I told him what happened with mine and he didnt have a spare prop, so ended up buying the exact OEM replacement that was currently on the boat. He Swapped it out, and no noise all summer!!

Jeff Kostis...you were right on...the prop nut was a tad loose....snugged it up and sound was gone! Interesting how some things that elude a person can be so simple...thanks for directing my attention to the prop!!!
