I am getting ready to replace my carpet in my 79 ski nautique. I am wondering if anyone with that era boat has replaced their carpet and know what lengths and widths they ordered to cover all the areas the factory did.
My supplier can get 6x20 or 8x24. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Brian |

Brian,
Do you want to go with the original turf type carpet? Some of the colors are hard to find. |

I have been leaning towards going with the newer style carpet like what is in the early 90's Nautiques, I've good experiences with that as far as holding up and keeping clean goes.
On my boat the widest point on the floor is about 64 inches and I would need about 18 inches up each side to cover all the fiberglass. From fuel tank to front hump is just over 11 feet. So realistically two rolls of 6'x12' would be ideal. I'm also trying to avoid seems if at all possible. Brian |

I recommend the original astroturf. Not only does it look the best (original ) its actually pretty functional. Its thin and doesnt hold an appreciable amount of water. It also vacuums clean very easily. I put 22oz carpet in my '90 and when it gets wet, it stays wet forever.
As far as length goes, youre best off measuring exactly what you need if youre going to try and cut it close. 6' is plenty wide to do the floor. I always order somewhere between 2x and 2.5x the length of the boat in carpet (40-50'). 1x the length for the floor, 1x for the walls, and a good amount left over for all the panels. The only seams I leave are at the hull/wall joint. Grass Carpet at marinecarpeting.com ^^They will cut you any length you need, and have more colors than they show on their site, if I remember correctly. We used the blue on our '79 Barefoot Nautique. Their prices are good, and ship very reasonably as well. Great customer service to boot. |
