Hi,
I have managed to successfuly(just)import an 1981 Ski Nautique to Sydney, Australia. The laws here require me to fit trailer brakes and so disc brake hubs are needed. Just wondering what the likely sizes for bearings would be? Is there a standard axle size/shape that CC used? The axle currently has ford hubs so I will going with these. I am hanging to get my trailer registered so I can take it out boarding but the USA-> AUS axle stuff has me stumped. Cheers Mark |

You may have to pull the bearings to find out. Apparently the bearings should be stamped with industry-standard (US, that is) part numbers.
Drum brakes might be cheaper/simpler than disc brakes... Here are a couple US sites that sell parts, www.etrailerparts.com www.easternmarine.com |

Might be easier to just buy a fresh drop axle with brakes.
I don't know axles as well as boats, but last time I looked at one, I saw no way to add backing plates nor calliper brackets without fabrication and welding. If the backing plate flanges are there, you have more options. |

I'm thinking full axle replacement is the way to go, makes it easier to source common bearing sizes etc. I'm currently putting together a 2nd trailer which has all the right bits now so I'll move the boat onto that. A quick axle swap and I will have it back on the orginal trailer or I'll onsell it to cover my other trailer refurb costs. |

Judt thought I'd bump this thread again to see if anyone can help me here.
It's the original CC trailer and it has the flange on the axle that has the 2 holes, top and bottom. I'll pull the hub tomorrow and have a look at the axle and bearing sizes..if it's the equivalent of 45mm then I'm in luck. My question though is whether or not the flange is desgined to hold a MO brake caliper? The hole spacing of the plates would need to be the same as well but I'm full of hope again. |

I have a model 3DV with my 89 (drum style surge brakes and 15" tires.) It has a 1 1/4" by 1 3/4" tapered spindle {I assume what you refer to as a flange.} My hubs are 12"x2", 6 lug, with a 5 1/2" circle. Inner Bearing/Race = 25580 (inner diameter 1.75") / 25520 (outter diameter 3.265")........ Outter Bearing/Race = LM67048 (inner diameter 1.25") / LM67010 (outter diameter 2.328")
The grease seal (NAPA part# 21352)for the inner bearing is 2.125" x 3.376" x 0.375" wide. The axle accommadated surge brakes, someone else may pipe in about converting to disc brakes. The five holes you refered to are what the backing plate assembly (drum brakes) mounts to. They cost about 80.00 per side. It just bolt on. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for that, it was exactly what I wanted. Surge or mechanical override units are what I want to fit. I was going to fit discs but drum units if they can be sourced and bolted on would do the trick. I'll have to see if I can do a swap over of a hub tonight so see how it all goes. thanks again |
