10 stitches from a chain saw? Dodged a bullet, I'd say. Mend up quick, see you in Nashville!

"Awwwwwwwwl, it's only a flesh wound!"
First of all I wanna thank God for looking out for me today. I know allot of damage could have been done but wasn't if he weren't watching over me. Thanks Marty.... Yep I tried to do a little knee reconstructive surgery of my own with a Husqvarna Chainsaw today. Not sure what happened but I do know my finger was not on the trigger and the chain was spooling down when my left leg just above the knee tried to stop the chain. Didn't work. Chainsaw won and I DO NOT want a rematch. Best I can figure as to what happened was my leg moved faster than I could move the chainsaw as I as stepping over to delimb the huge branch I cut of the tree on a freaking ladder. Anyway 4 hours in the ER on a Saturday of course and 10 ugly stitches later.......... NOT FOR THE SQUIMISH! BIG THANKS to prettyinred for driving down to look out for me while I was there. Yep! It's gonna leave a mark but Doc says stay outta the water till it heals up. Still have full use of toes ankles etc so I'll be in Nashville ready to slalom for sure. Thanks for the well wishes Guy's |

Tim,I haven't seen anything like that since my last kid was born. During my years as a paramedic I never saw the chainsaw loose. That will leave a good conversation starting scar. Thanks for the safety reminder, it is amazing how close we are to disaster at any given moment. I hope you heal fast.

Tim! Holy COW! You are lucky.... a buddy of mine lost his leg because of a similar accident (mangled beyond repair). Glad you boys are safe and thanks for reminding us to BE CAREFUL! Whew!
BTW - Gonna be a great scar... Were his eyes closed? I could have closed that better in a dark barn on a fractious colt... a simple continuous as a skin closure? I'll fix it at The Masters. |

Tim - Glad it wasn't worse. Can you be on limited duty at work?
Chainsaws have always spooked me, they can get out of control in a hurry, like you found out. |

Dang that looks nasty. Kind of surprised that was only 10 stitches. I do not think you'll be skiing in TN...
A previous roommate did that (about twice as long) to himself in the middle of his farm field and had to use what was left of his jeans to tie around his thigh and drove himself to the hospital. The saw wins every time, chaps x10! |

Tim D, nope no tendons cut. just got meat and fat. I was VERY lucky.
Mike, OMG I hope your son is okay, that hurts me just thinking about it. Prayers to your son and rest of the family. Tom, Guess your right, If I'm gonna preach it guess I gotta live it. Jeff, Tamara even hinted that it was her fault as if she would have gotten up off the couch and done something with Dad I wouldn't have cut myself. John, I can hear it now..... "Oh look...Here comes Slash and Gash now!" Keith, felt bad for you man after your knee surgery so I thought you could use some company on the dock or a full time spotter. Greg, here's the guilty party and as you can see he's ready do do some more carnal damage. Upon closer inspection I did see some hair imbedded in a couple teeth but no hide. Hollywood, Doc says I'm clear to get in the water in about 14 days when the stitches come out and she's all sealed up on the outside. Kneeboarding will be out for awhile and so are the inverts but guess I see here in a couple weeks. Did hear a story from the triage nurse about a tree guy who came in the ER with a chainsaw incident at another hospital. The saw kicked back hit him in the groin area, grabbed his jeans and not only pulled the denim but ripped the entire hide off his 'Family Jewels'! They were all amazed that the saw just de-skinned him and didn't rip EVERTHING off. BE CAREFUL out there guy's. |

Bruce, I had borrowed the saw from my Dad to cut down a big tree that died last fall as my lil' bitty Poulan 18" chainsaw wouldn't be able to do it. Here's whats left of the tree I originally borrowed it for.
Since I still had it and and buzzes thru limbs like no tomorrow I used it on a suckling branch that needed to come off. Unfortuntely for me it works good on human limbs too. I've recreated the accident in my mind and in the garage holding the saw as if I were using it and I have NO DOUBT that as it was spooling down from cutting a prior limb I raised my knee into the bottom of the saw. It lines up perfectly. Here is the scene of the crime: |
