2000 Pro Air Nautique with 5.0 GM PCM (Throttle Body) approx 270 hrs. About 3 weeks ago the check engine light started coming on at low idle only. The temp and oil pressure gages were fine and the boat ran fine.

Last weekend, the Check Engine light came on and stayed on through low idle and lower RPMs, then ultimately stayed on. It will not go off now. Again, all temp and oil pressure readings are normal and the boat runs fine.

I took it to the new Correct Craft marina in town and had their guy read the code for me. It showed no code. All readings were normal except Intake Air Temp. It read -40 degrees.

My question...

Where is the Intake Air Temp sensor on this engine?

Is there anything connected to the Check Engine Light in addition to the Engine Computer Output. Are there secondary Temp or Oil Pressure Sensors that would give a light when the ECM shows no issues?

What gives a CE Light but provides no code?

There are 2 things that trigger the light- low oil pressure and high water temp. Your low pressure oil switch is most likely leaking oil. Leak starts small (idle) then gets bigger (all the time). You'll find this sensor next to the oil pressure sender, teed off the same feed above the oil filter. Take the wire off of the oil pressure switch (smaller of the two) and the CEL should go away. You can buy a 1/4" NPT brass plug from a hardware store to replace the pressure switch in a pinch to save a vacation- ask me how I know!

EDIT: Since you have a Chevy motor the oil pressure sensor will not be where I described. Should be easy to find though.

Man... this is too cool. You steered me right to it.

In spite of the fact that it's a GM, it's just as you described... about 4 inches above the oil filter is an "L" with 2 senders attached. One is larger than the other. The small one has evidence of leaking.

I'll get a chance later this week to get it to water and start it to confirm the failure, but I'd bet it's the cause.

Thanks so much for your help.

Fixed it... Found a replacement at local Autoparts store. Had to buy an adaptor fitting (replacement had larger non-tapered thread).

Note: The switch connection will be shorted to its case prior to installation. It opens (electrically) when it sees engine oil pressure. Apparently this is different from many standard Oil Pressure Switches.

Thanks Again
