Hi All,

Need help. My boat company has put on 3 different carbs on my 1986 Martinque and same problem. I have a stock 351 V8 in her and they put on a 4 barrell marine holley 650CFM carb. Folks are telling me that this is too much carb for the boat and drowning the engine. Have any of you had this issue. I love my boat only 700 hrs and thinking just converting it to fuel injection. Any of you all do this.

Thanks for the response. Looking at the engine the 4 barrell carb the back portion is being flooded with gas. They pulled the carb and cleaned it and checked the floats but still same problem. This will be the third holley carb in a year with the same problem. So I asked them to check the fuel pressure and they said it was factory specs. Part of me thinks they have no idea how to work on a carb.

Usually, a 600 CFM is used on a 351, not a 650. So yes, this carb is a little big, but that wouldn't cause it to flood, at worst you would get a little bit of a bog coming out of the hole.

Do you have any pics of this carb? I'm curious because the 4160 (Model) is the preferred carb for this engine, and I don't think it comes in a 650 CFM, so I'm wondering if they are using the wrong carb.

The 2 back barrels are the secondaries. I'd say it's either a float adjustment or linkage. A wedge plate might help level the secondaries, but there's a float adjustment as well. There's also a stop screw for the secondaries underneath.

I'm not sure what checking the floats does. Setting them lower because they are in the back might be the trick.

And I have a Holley 4160 650 cfm; they were stock on the 454's.
