Has anyone done their exhaust like this? We're trying to do it similar as Correct Craft did in the 70's, but after doing one side it seems overly complicated and I'm not crazy about the joints under the floor. It is floating now and will need to be supported if we go with it. I'm interested in how others may have done it. The short piece of hose is just slipped over the tube to keep it from chaffing on the steering block bolt.

No. Putting a plywood floor down and putting vinyl flooring on it. The floor will be removalable, but not easily.

Bruce,
What is over complicated about that? It looks just like my Tique looks and I assume mine is as it came from the factory. Admittedly, I haven't had the floor out, but I have replaced the front hose and have dug around the back with the gas tank out. Instead of the rubber sleeve, there is some of that old astro turf carpet wrapped around the pipe. |

Larry, a straight shot with rubber seemed too easy snd with no joints under the floor. I'm going to go back and look at it in a day or two, but wasn't all that thrilled with it when I finished it up. This is why our projects take so long.

Easier, yes, but you know, there are those here that will say the improved exhaust note is worth the effort. There are also those who will passionately advocate that having the pipe is more original.
Is that your new Cuda (color doesnt look quite right but I know it was waiting for a new motor and the strips on the back seem cuda-esque. |

Thats the way my boat is now, rubber from the riser to the transom. |

Only thing I would change is the connection under the cross member for accessibility reasons. It would be a pain to put clamps on underneath that board. Otherwise, it looks great...and will sound great.
Here is a picture of my 78 Tique and how the exhaust came from the factory before we removed the mufflers and replaced with copper. |

You may want to consider a more vertical run off the risers like Chris' Tique above. That will let the floor get closer to the engine compartment.

Bruce, it looks good- stop worrying! Thats the way its done. Same number of connections as if you had mufflers in the boat (as many CC's did).

Interesting the difference from 76 to 78. One, I dont have mufflers, just copper pipe, and two, my copper pipes are under the floor. Although I am not sure, but I THINK my floor might have been redone. Unfortunately, not the stringers, but I think the floor is new, so maybe they were covered then. As far as clamp under the board, mine is kind of like that. That is why when I had to replace a hose, I had to dig out the gas tank and undo the hose in the rear so I could slide the whole mess forward, to replace that front connection, then slide the whole mess back and redo the connection in the rear

That is the Cuda and we are going to all this trouble just for the improved exhaust note. Tubes aren't original to the 1966 boats. Finally got the motor in. It was supposed to be ready for this summer, but not enough hours in the day. Next summer!
Chris that joint ended up under the board because that is the point where it levels out on the floor. I tried a more downward angle, but it makes for a sharper corner and those elbows are meant provide a straighter shot. The motor box is plenty big to cover everything up, 54" long on the bottom and 33' wide. Tim, I was ready to go buy new hose, but I knew I'd end up having all these parts in the garage forever. |
