I'm about to have my stripe repainted. I've got to get the ID numbers(letters) off. I assume they've been stuck on there for the entire life of the boat. It's an '80. What's the best way to get them off and not damage the gelcoat. Has anyone ever done this? Thanks, Tate

A heat gun will soften up just about any old vinyl letters so they'll peel off with your finger nail. If you don't have a heat gun use a hair dryer.

reidp is right on! That works great! I did mine like that and then took some laquer thinner on a rag and wiped the stickys away. I repained my stripe and letters, and found out the hard way not to use laquer paint. It started to blister on the edges. I was so dumb!!! Use enamel!! Anyway, it came out as good as factory!!
