Hey Guys just got back in from SLC this morning after spending a couple days with Nautiquehunter, his wife Gail, and two of her brothers. After hanging out a bit with Mike and Gail this past summer we talked about hitting the slopes together this winter. Well ....we did. The Hunters have been vacationing for a week out in Utah so I flew out to snowboard with them for a couple days. Awesome time on the snow with CCFans. Gotta get tuned up for spring. Here's a few cell phone snaps taken yesterday afternoon....

Brighton Ski Resort!

Bruce, we just hit Brighton both days I was there. I flew in Tues morn and Mike was sick so I just met Gail and her 2 bros. Snowed the whole time from 1230pm till we left at 7pm. Mike was able to go out yesterday for most of the day and it was mostly cloudy all day. Sun popped out here and there but the wind was blowing hard up the mountain and it was foggy and gusty till you dropped 500 ft or so. They hit Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, a few days before I got there. They were going back to Snowbird today I think. Snow conditons were great and the locals I talked to said they've had a couple good days of constant snow. Not too much ice except up on top where the winds were blowing all the surface stuff off.

The weather certainly varies out there from day to day and canyon to canyon. Where'd you stay? We stay down in Midvale on 7200south. Brighton is a great area. You can't lose being near those 2 canyons.

Now I see... you're a boarder, of course you didn't ski Alta. We're going to have one of those with us too, so we won't be at Alta every day.

I stayed at the Days Inn in Midvale. $55 a night which you can't beat for only staying there less than 12 hours. The 5 of us went to Bavarian Brewery for dinner last night which is an awesome German/Bavarian Pub. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a great place to eat. Midvale Mining Co. is the place to go to fuel up for breakfast.

I rented gear from REI which is good stuff at great rates if you aren't lugging your own stuff.

That's where we've stayed the past couple trips out there. We used to stay across the street at the Best Western, but it's some other chain now and the Days Inn had a better price. We used to hit Midvale Mining Co every morning, but switched to Carls last year because no one wanted to bulk up so much in the morning. You don't leave MMC hungry. The Barvarian was our favorite place last year. There a bunch of good places in town too, but between Midvale and Sandy, everything is there. We rent from REI, too. I used to bring my own skis out there, but it's easier to rent and you can get skis good for their conditions rather than Maine conditions.

I prefer hitting local spots instead of the big chains. Heck I can hit those at home...Squatters Brewery and Red Rock Brewery are good places too if you haven't been there and wanna head downtown. Have been to Mimi's (close to REI)in Sandy there for breakfast which is better than MMC but sounds like your crew doesn't like to eat to heavy in the morning.

I had never heard of Carls, but a breakfast sandwhich is plenty for me and my brother in law thought the manager was cute, so we had to go there every morning. I'll have to keep those brew pubs in mind. We went into town last year just once to one of our old favorite places, Al Forno's, which I hadn't been to for a long time and it wasn't the same. Not nearly as good as it used to be. Bavarian was out top spot. I really like the beer at Gold Miners Daughter at Alta. We'll have 5 days out there this year. I couldn't wallk right for 2 months after 3 days last year. Gonna have to pace myself ths year.
