Does anyone have any information, documentation or photographs of any of the 15 1980 454 Show Nautiques? This thread probably has the most information that I could find...

Where did the 15 come from?
I drove one about 15 years ago... I assumes at the time that it wasn't a legit model. 80-81 SN with a 454 so it could very well have been. I lost track of the boat, but it was in the northeast. Did you stumble across one? |

I'm not sure that it's 15, just saw that mentioned a couple times. Might have found something, but don't have photos or any history, so nothing yet really.

Look up the user "UltraHots." He doesn't come around much anymore. His family owned one growing up, and he ws always on the look for one. He posted pictures of his family's boat several times. If you do a search on his posts, you should probably find a picture.

Actually, I just tried doing some digging around, and it looks like Ultrahots has taken down his photobucket photos. I would suggest go to his profile and send him a private message. He probably has the same email. Maybe he'll share some photos of the boat with you. BKH

Also, I can't wait to hear what happened between Hollywood and Jodi. |

In the days when we supplied boats for all the SeaWorld shows, we made two 454 SNs for each park, specifically to pull the pyramids off the dock. Other ski shows got them also. You can spot them by looking at the steering head. They all had dual steering cables after Seaworld Ohio had a non-CC boat lose a steering cable and went into the audience.

Just curious Art,how were the cables run, both on same side of the boat,or one down each stringer with some sort of dual arm tiller arm?

Gary, I am now a bit fuzzy on that; at one time I know that there were two tiller arms stacked on the rudder. One pointed to port, the other to starboard. The cables exited the helm unit on the same side (to starboard) and the one connected to the port rudder arm crossed the bilge under the engine. There was a special rudder which had the square top of the post machined with extra length to accomodate the second tiller arm.
That was with the old Teleflex Big T (rotary) steering system. When we went to rack-and-pinion steering, there was something different, but I can't recall what it was. I will try to remember to ask the guy who used to install steering in those days and see what he can recall. To my knowledge, none of this is documented anywhere except in a few brains. Art |

I went and looked at this boat tonight. There as with most of these boats Pro's and Con's. For starters this IS a Show Nautique NO QUESTION. When he bought the boat it was out of the Madison area which is what I figured. This boat was bought by JR or the Rock Aqua Jays and used in their shows until sometime in the mid 80's when it was purchased by a local family on our ski team. They knew what it was due to the team having the White / Grey / Black one I am still in search of. Much to my dismay when he got it the striping was not bright enough for him so his local fiberglass guy suggested sanding and rubbing the old stuff off and adding vinyl graphics to it. On the flip side he had enough smarts to snap pictures of it before this happened. He was nice enough to let me dig thru the folder of past owners and slips ETC for purchases of parts and services over the years. In that mess (Good type) I found a bunch of the stills he had taken. I got to ride in and ski behind this boat in the mid 80's for it to turn up in my backyard 25 years later. The Bad..... Stringers are toast with a lot of mush in the rear extending into the area covered by carpet, the motor box was re built from the one that was rotting away 15 years ago, New one is nice and seems solid. A lot of bad mods have been made over the years like a lot of these we see, Now has an electric fuel pump and gotta love the Auto HEI ignition in it. I did get the opportunity to spin it on the local lake he lives near and this thing still gets up and boogies. GPS on my phone put us at 49 with no issues at all. I know the boat had the motor re built a number of years back by guys at the local tech school. If you want a VERY RARE project this is it. If you want a ready to run boat you will want to keep searching. I was very torn on this as I have been searching for years to find one only to have doubts about being able to take it back to where I would want to see it. Have any questions you want answered in person feel free to call me 608 669 6537

Well it came home today. I went and looked at it a few weeks back and made an offer. He had a bunch of lookers but no buyers. It has a few smaller issues I would like to straighten up and have it at Green Lake if possible.
Thanks to the forums for the heads up. |
