Carb Issue? Wrong Fuel Pump?

I have been having carb troubles since I bought my boat last year.

Gas is dripping out the front Venturis after I shut the key off. Causing a hard start condition. Also at low trolling speeds causes a flooding out dying condition.

I did the following.

1. Rebuilt the Carburetor with a genuine holley kit.
2. Adjusted float
3. Replaced the new needle and seat, with another new needle and seat because of holley rebuild kit bad needle rumors.
4. Tested tuned, tried about all I can imagine.

Most recently I borrowed a different carb from a boat shop owner and the carb performs exactly like my carb does. Dripping fuel out of the venturis after the key is off, bogging flooding condition as well like the original.

The fuel pump looks pretty new like it was replaced before I got the boat. The number on the metal tab is 60389-410.

Could this be the wrong fuel pump and is giving more than 7lbs pressure and over taking the needle and seat sealing gas off???

The pump may be too high of pressure. I had that exact scenario with a holley pump specifically for a carbed engine. It was putting out 9+ PSI. I have heard of others with the problem but really pretty rare. You can remove the hard fuel line to the carb temporarily and hook up a rubber hose from the pump. "T" in a fuel pressure gauge to test the pressure. Just remember to replace the hard line.

My guess is that the float is too high. Pretty common problem to be set too high if you have it adjusted like Holley recommends (bowl upside down and float adjusted so it's parallel with the top of the bowl). Holley's recommendation doesn't account for the angle of the carb on our engines. Lower the float a little bit and see what happens.

Sounds like you've done everything else right as well as your homework. You're definitely on the right track.
