Val and I will be making a trip to the Adirondack area this September. Are there any "must see" places to see, to stay, or to boat? We will be carrying the 206 and a couple of kayaks.
Any CCFans along the way that want a pull in the ZR6 powered 206...... |

The Adirondacks is a big region... where are you going? If Lake Placid, I like staying at the Mirror Lake Resort. Good food, nice rooms, great views, good pricing. My first ride on an inboard was on Loon Lake which is a little north of Saranac Lake and Placid.
Lake George is at the southern area of the Adirondacks and it is a summertime destination. They've held a CC reunion there. I go to Schroon Lake often, which is a little north of LG. Schroon is one of my favorite lakes. What are your plans? FYI, Placid and Lake George will be pretty dead that time of year. Things really slow down after school starts. |

Steve,
Have you ever been up that way? It's BEAUTIFUL country. I'm envious. Do you have any plan, map, itinerary yet? Depends if you are starting on the east side (Lake George) or south central (Old Forge). I know the old forge area best. Start of a beautiful set of lakes. The Fulton Chain starting in Old Forge. (Old Forge is a quaint, but touristy little town) moving north to Big Moose, Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake, Raquette Lake. All beautiful. Might want to hit this place if you want to take a look at vintage boats. If you go Lake George way, the lake is great, but big and rough, a big rocky cliff somewhere on there to jump off. Some falls near by with cliffs to jump. Head up to Ausable Chasm for some "natural history". When are you going? My daughter is going to be canoeing most of those lakes I named off in a 90 mile 3-day canoe race that runs form Sept 6 to 8. Grueling, but she did it last year and is looking forward to doing it again. Might be fun to see that if it coincides. If you like hiking, Bald Mountain is a quick easy trip, maybe 45 minutes to get up, but a real pretty view of the Fulton Chain. For a longer day, Blue Mountain is a bit more aggressive and will take a good chunk of the day. The Adirondack Museum is also at Blue Mountain and that is interesting as well. |

Awesome - thanks guys! It is JUST what we were looking for.
Our locations are flexible and we want a bit of a plan prior to going. We will be heading out from SW VA on Labor Day for about 10 days. I know the Crush came from Adirondack Marine and they were site supporters, so I want to visit there. This gives us a great start.... We have really enjoyed the Finger Lakes and would like a similarly awesome experience - 20th anniversary at Keuka and 25th now up around George/Saranac. |

Whoah. That sounds like fun but also something that normal people should not subject themselves to! Have her wear a GoPro on her head and post a time lapse of the event :) |

Steve, you might know this, but Uncle Todd owns/runs a marina and campground on the Mohawk River in Scotia, NY, so just an hour south of Lake George. Might be worth a stop in at one end of your trip. Last time I skied with him up there, we had glass on the river from lock to lock.

I grew up spending a week each year on Lake George just south of Bolton. My uncle still has a cabin up by Hague on the lake. I haven't been there in 25 years but can still picture it well. It's beautiful. The south end of the lake is usually much busier but there is a cool town and marina there. The north end will have some better skiing and calmer waters.
Not sure if they have the 3 big tourist boats still running the lake, I heard one of them actually went down. Used to be the Minne-Ha-Ha (paddlewheel boat), the Mohican, and the Ticonderoga. Always loved seeing those as a kid and yelling "Minne-Ha-Ha blow your horn!!!" from our swim dock and then hearing the very loud response from the captain. Great times. I learned to ski on Lake George behind an old Renken tri-hull! |

As mentioned before this is a big area. Lake Placid is a nice place to stay. You can get your boat out on Lake Placid. There is a lot of attractions in the area. Whiteface mtn, Santa's workshop (if you have little kids), hiking to name a few. The adirondack museum in Blue Mt Lake, Old Forge are nice. A little outside the adirondacks is the St Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands region. The sntique boat museum in Clayton is very cool and right on the river. Alex Bay is nice but a bit commercial. There are castles on islands that you can tour that are very cool.

This is not that race, but another one she did this spring (that is her in the light blue shirt..four man boat). This is something she has just gotten into. I had no idea the pace they kept up till she sent us this video. Imagine keeping this up for 3 days? During the 90 miler last year, one of the legs was windy rough and cold. Several boats flipped. Glad hers wasn't one of them. |

I knew Todd was up around there, but that area all runs together for us folks down here. Great to know and I would love to drop in on him (plus, I owe him BBBB2 and other dash parts).... Val needs to see the boat I almost bought...ha!

I can vouch for Todd being a cool guy too. Jeff Toro and I stopped by when we were out skiing with the kids last year. He gave us a tour of the boat garages and his projects :)
You can have plenty of fun in the southern Adirondacks without going all the way up to Placid. But a trip making a loop from Lake George, to Placid, to Alex bay (Watertown area) would be pretty cool. If you have an iPhone or GPS-enabled iPad, I suggest getting the Navionics app. It is a great tool for use on unfamilar bodies of water. |

Wait you came through the fingerlakes before without stopping to see Joeinny... unheard of- feel free to remedy that on your way up to or down to the adirondack region. You wouldn't want to drive back down the same way you go up that would be a waste of scenery. I am not the most experienced Adirondack traveler but do have some experience with Bolton, Old Forge, and Lake Placid mentioned above… all good places, it really depends on what you are looking for, boating vs hiking, camping vs hotels, etc. Not everything is open after Labor Day up there so you have to be a little careful but that also makes it a great time to be there. Feel free to give me a call if you want any input.

My apologies - 5 years ago, knowing JoeinNY was only a far off dream. Thanks for all the help guys! Maybe I can help on any visits to the Mid-Atlantic - Dip had a nice time on our lake and we would be happy to host anyone coming this way.....maybe in the fall we could do a Reunion / Hydrofoil clinic - Lord knows I need the help! |

Yeah Joe...Not too sure you fit into the "newlywed behaviors" plan for this one.
I think that might be an excellent idea Steve. Since it's Reid and Laurie's "off-year" we need a final fall hurrah someplace. |

What ever happened to Jeff Toro? Haven't seen nor heard from him since the last Lake George Reunion. Lake George was a great place for a reunion. |

Joe that's perfect. He can come up through the Albany area, see Todd in Scotia, north to LG and Placid area, west to Alex Bay, and then south to you. Then take 81 south to get home.

Jeff got turned off from the forums by certain individuals and strong opinions. He's a good friend of mine and still has his 77. It is beautiful and looks brand new. He polished every shiny part in June and it is insane. The back of the mirror, all of the cleats, pylon... they all look like they just came off the production floor. While not completely original, I doubt anyone has a cleaner and better looking boat and trailer. He's got a new camper too so they are doing a lot of camping this summer. I'm hoping to get him out with us on Ballston Lake tomorrow. |

Or for the way home the future I99 corridor (current route 15) down the west side of the state - not much more mileage/time but more scenic and less chance of construction/backup. |

Steve,
Depending on the time in September, our team (US Water Ski Show Team) may still have its docks and jump in the Mohawk at Jumpin' Jacks in Scotia, NY. In either case, the skiing is always great there, and boat launches are open. Slalom course may still be in and my nearby river house, always has a few Nautiques in-process/ready to go, including the BBBII, Tim's Tique, '04 ski with the 6 liter, GT-40 powered '63 Classic, and a few more. 10 miles of river there, and 5 miles of river at my Marina and RV Park, next lock up. I'd be disappointed not to meet you and show you some fun!! Several Site members have skied there and although different from a big lake like the Fingers, Placid or George, it will be pretty quiet and there is lots of flat water and a variety of great scenery. Not sure I know of your current plans for the CT Mini, but I recall that college starts were impacting that. Too bad. September can be great, but often needing a wet suit as water starts to cool. I can vouch that the Lake Placid/ Saranac Lake area is really nice. Lake George is too though as a lake it reminds me more of the Finger Lakes than Upper and Lower Saranac. The town of Lake Placid is fun too, plus its the home of the Miracle On Ice.

Hell, spend a day or 2 in the Albany - Schenectady area and take the locks from the Hudson to the Mohawk, from the port of Albany ending up at Jumpin' Jacks near Todd's house. There are 5-7 locks between the 2 rivers and a lot of historic sites. We can arrange to drive your truck and trailer to Scotia :) It's a good 4-5 hours to get through the locks. There's a marina in Latham (Blains Bay Marina) that will let you keep your boat in the water overnight. Then its just a few more miles and one lock to Scotia.

Jeff, tell Jeff I said he ought to come back on. I was surprised he didn't go to the 2 Northwood Lake reunions. He did have at least one little kid that I'm sure is keeping him busy, but he did seem to enjoy the 2 Lake George reunions. His Nautique is beautiful. Did you go to Lake George?
My favorite picture from the last LG Reunion. Beautiful area. |

Forgot to mention the best part of Lake George was riding around with Bruce and his sons in that beautiful boat, even if the rear seat was a little hard.

Ok ...Plan me a trip from 24018 to the Benjamin Compound to George, Placid, Clayton, Mohawk River.... passing through the finger lakes on the way home....... It all sounds great! Esp. the lock trip, that sounds cool. Would it be better in the BFN? She's a wreck but she's my wreck....
Both trailers are ready but the BFN may not be..... |

OK guys I'll tell Jeff his presence has been requested. Maybe I can convince him to drive his 5th wheel to the CT mini and let me drive his boat there :)
Tim - I'd love to go but would be boatless; but I'd love to get some instruction and confidence for my kids. Steve - I'll put a proposed itinerary together for you. I'm jealous! It sounds like a cool trip. Joe - I know you're in Auburn, but what lake are you on? |

Keuka? Ancestral Home? You are in Georgia......Ha! Did "The War of Northern Aggression" change things?
Val's family has enjoyed the Finger Lakes for years and years and years. Her Dad was taught to waterski on Keuka Lake at Harbor Lights Marina and had lunch at The Switz with d*ck Pope and Tommy Barlett before Cypress Gardens and Ski Nautique were born.... (At least that's the story she tells to Donald!) This is exciting to get this info....and the idea of visiting along the way......very cool - Thanks fellas! |
