My 1915 launch project needs a new stem rub rail. I have found 3/4" wide half oval but only in 20' lengths. Any ideas? I'm putting together all the items like square head bolts and square head lag bolts that need to be hot dipped galvanized and the half oval is the last item. I can get short lengths in stainless but am told it doesn't galvanize well. It's a zinc adhesion issue.

Pete I know this sort of sounds convoluted but is there a method with the stainless that you could bead blast it . have a nickle or copper or other type of plate added to it then hot dipped galv?

Have you tried McMaster-Carr Supply? National HQ is in Chicago, they will sell you cut lengths on almost anything. Good website, too!

Yes, I am a fan of McMaster!! With my new job, I'm located 10 minutes from them. I make several "fire runs" a week over to their will call. No, they regrettably do not have the half oval steel. Yes on the stainless but I feel that is a Taco metals product. We are such a good customer that they utilize a private delivery service for our purchases. If I order before 10:00, I'll have it in the afternoon. Yes, there are cheaper places to go but when you need something to keep production going, the extra cost is meaningless!
I even have my own personal account with them with my credit card on file!! Tony, A half oval is a section of a round. The best example I can give is rub rails on boats. |

Pete, I also like M-Carr; not only do they offer great service, you can get someone on the phone who knows what he is talking about. And they don't rip you off on the s & h charges.
I have a Taco Metals catalog from 1999; it shows 5 different sizes of half-oval solid rail, and also several hollow-back sizes. It is probably stainless; I didn't read the details. If you want to know more, their website is www.tacometals.com; phone 800 653 8564. HQ is is Miami. Art |

Pete just buy the 20 footer use what you need, then buy another boat to use the rest up. Problem solved

I'm starting to favor the local O'Reillys. They seem to be well stocked and if you watch for specials, good prices on oil, etc.
