They are just screwed on but, the aluminum treads can be corroded. Take it easy working the knob back and forth. Some penetrating oil (50% ATF and 50% acetone) will help.

I don't want to break this part so thought I would ask before really wrenching on it. Is the wood ball on top of the handle screwed on or is there an epoxy in there. I tried screwing it off but did not want to budge, and like I said I really don't want to break it.
