Gurus,
I recently posted about my 1994 SN with Pro Tec 5.8 HO . The problem was hesitation at mid range and wide open. The problem is a bad injector. Bottom line is its 400 bucks difference between new injectors and retro fit removing the Pro tec and throttle body injection and replace with a distributor and carb system... Has anyone done this and is there a change in performance ?

If a bad injector was diagnosed they are easy to change, you can do one or all 8. I would run some ATF, Automatic transmission fluid, 1 qt in a full tank through the system, it usually frees up the injector and you are running well again. The Ford injectors are very common and available most anywhere. Mustang enthusiast often install larger injectors for more power, the old stock ones sit on the shelf and can be picked up for low money.
I have no issue running a carb, well tuned they are close to injection but you have injection and it does work well in most cases, I would fix the injector and keep it injected.

It's a TBI system where the ProTec runs the ignition and the fuel injection, I have no idea who's injectors they used, but it didn't come from Ford.

That's a tough one, there was no difference in hp between the carb'd and the FI motors and the ignition part will eventually go. I would lean words a Quick Fuel carb and the DUI ignition. I'm not a fan of the factory replacement ignition, I don't think it was as good as the ProTec, the DUI should be much closer performance wise. The Quick Fuel carb is a bit cheaper than a Holley and more easily adjustable. A properly set up carb is generally makes a little more more power than a TBI system.

Thanks for the reply's. The problem is I can't replace just 1 injector. A set of 4 with the mounting system is about 950$. The carb / pointless distributor is 1350. I would hate to sink 950 in and then the Pro Tec system give up the ghost. Then I start all over again and have to go carb / distributor ..... I have been told that that 1994 pro Tec/ TBI system was one of the strongest if least fuel efficient systems PCM made. I am just wondering if it really reduces power that much. Thanks again !
