Any idea if this would be the same prop for my 81 nautique? Also is it still available? Found a log in lake while towing 9yr old skiing.

Should be the same if nobody has changed anything on your 81.

Previous owner did change the prop on my boat, upgraded to a 4 blade. What kind of shape is the prop in? What are you looking to get for it?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
A 4 blade is NOT a upgrade. Please do your research before making such a statement!

My mistake. Research is now complete! Should I stick with the 4 blade then? I don't want to be overreving or dogging the boat. Does the 3 blade make alot of difference? Just want it on the water for a few more runs this year. Down around high 40's low 50's at night dropping water temp quickly.

It is true that if he were looking for the best performing prop for his boat, there's a good chance we'd point him towards a new acme 3-blade. That said, a 4-blade prop (presumably a 13x13 OJ) would in fact be a substantial upgrade over the original 3-blade federal.

What Pete meant- although his statement is misleading- is that the common "put a 4-blade on it" school of thought from 10-15 years ago is no longer valid, as there are other more important considerations than blade count, especially on our smaller, lighter boats.

Not that you asked, but federals, even of the proper size- make good backup props and that's about it, IMHO.

Nice Upgrade! Occasionally someone feels that the 540 is not that big of an upgrade from a nice 4 blade oj, but I find the 540 always makes the boat feel happier and healthier.
