Does anyone have experience with a '92 vintage Master Craft Pro Sport 205? A buddy of mine is interested in a boat primarily for slalom that is fully composite in the ~$10k-$12k range. He is also getting into footing as of recently. The boat he is looking at is appealing because the hull and interior are clean, the motor had low hours, and it's a walk through open bow. He is questioning how good the wakes will be and the seller isn't giving him much hope for a pull before he makes an offer. He doesn't have his heart set on this boat but it appears to be an ok deal.

I haven't been behind one... East TX SKier is the man if you want a first hand account. I do know it's based off the 91-94 ps190 hull which has a very nice slalom wake. I dont particularly love the way they handle or drive... Not very correct craft like. Tracking and spray will be incrementally worse than a similar vintage SN.
No pull before plunking down the cash? I'd tell the guy to pound sand! I also think he could find a nice 93-95 SN in that price range if he had to have composite... Though one only need to look at your 88 to know that not all wood stringer boats are scary! |

2 of the neighbors I ski with have a 98' sport and a 93' MC 205 and like Don said, wakes are very similar. Like Timmy said the MC is a bit of a turd to drive and the interior is really cramped in his with the observer seat being a captains chair.

Good input, thanks guys. I think for a good deal, the composite requirement would slide, but the focus seems to be on slightly more modern ski boats (early-mid 90s) that are composite.
Good point about the captains chair and cramped interior space. I think it would be great to see an early 90s SN sitting at his dock for my own selfish interests, but anything Master Craft, Malibu, or Nautique that fits the description is what he is going for. |

Like others have said... they ski great; better slalom wake than the Sport Nautique of similar vintage. In my opinion the interior is a bit dated. Also, wasn't that early indmar days for MC? Not sure about table for barefooting.. I'd guess not great.
Most late 80 and early 90 mastercraft (prostars at least) seem to steer a bit darty if that make sense. I almost bought a 95 MC white on white with prostar (black logo and pinstripe) with the LT1 until I took the helm of my 99SN... it was game over check was written. I didn't even ski it... just looked in the ski mirror around 36 and said yep... that aught to do. |
