I have an oddball setup in my 79. It has a Chevy 350 lh. It has omc risers, so I believe it's an omc setup. I was able to get a new impeller for the pump, but I can't find the gasket. I was only able to get the impeller because we had the part number from last time we put one in. Any ideas on finding the gasket? I could just clean up the one I have and use silicone or whatever to seal it up. Not my first choice.

Pictures always help,no on the silicone,if you can't find a gasket,make one.

I don't have a great pic of the outside. I will try to get one tonight. You can just see the pulley in the bottom left of the engine pic. I plan to do a stringer job this winter, so I will properly cut a gasket set for it then. In the mean time, Its RTV'd to make sure everything else works properly. I know its only a matter of time before thats an issue.. So you guys think this is a repower, or did CC put in a special for the customer? Everything I see states OMC made stern drives, but not necessary Inboards. |

There's a few original equipment OMC inboard boats on this site. I believe it was more an option than standard equipment.

A couple of thoughts. Most of the raw water pumps for marine engines were made by either Sherwood or Johnson. Having the impeller part number you may be able to cross reference it to a specific pump - knowing that you could source the gasket. Not sure about the engine? Maybe a car engine? Those appear to be Corvette valve covers. If the round badge on the valve cover immediately behind the riser has crossed flags on the emblem they are off of a Corvette probably ~1980 - 82. Good luck!

Uh wut.
Omc Chevies were optional ~72-79. Not as common but not all that rare either. I can think of 4 pretty active members with them (joes '72 307, Larry's '76 305, Jackie's '75 350, my '79 454). Ccf is just a small cross section of owners, I'm sure there are lots out there. I have been less than impressed with some of the details compared to PCM, but it is what it is. That pump is going to be un-fixable and un-replaceable if it's broken, unfortunately. Larry and Jackie both have converted to indmar style crank mounted pumps. |

350's were optional but usually special order. Didn't OMC 350's get a taller dog box bc height difference in the risers? Or was that the Merc 350? Either way, I thought all bow ties were right handers. I've come across quite a few 350's.

All of the omc chevies I've seen through '75 still had log manifolds and normal motorboxes. Still got the glass box in our 454, I've seen a few boats with wood motorboxes this late over big blocks, I don't recall the marinization packages they had other than Terry's PCM 454 Show Nautique.

Motorbox is glass. The emblems on the valve covers are a variation of corvette. The engine was fully rebuilt right before we bought it (so they said). Who knows what all parts were changed at that time.
Not great news on the RWP. I guess I'll either have to hand cut gaskets, or do the conversion this winter. Sounds kind of like a pain either way. |
