New Bildge Pumps

Couple Quick Questions... I planned to replace the bilge pumps if they needed it. Yesterday both of them answered that question quickly as the hose barbs on the pumps were both so brittle they crumbled in my hands.

Sooo. I need two new bilge pumps.

- Go back with what was in there? (Rule 25s)
- Assuming I go back with the 25s, I should be able to reuse the bottom part and just snap them into place and wire/ plumb them?
- Wiring Connectors: The pump under the motor has the three wires. Two of which where spliced into a factory plug at some point. The third wire was mounted to god knows what. and is just dangling around as of now. It's my understanding that the third wire was to allow for manual operation. Do I need one pump with a manual option?


Again assuming I go back with the two wire setup/ auto only on both pumps. The rear pump looks like the original connectors and pump with no splices. Should I just eliminate the factory quick disconnects? (everything in the bildge is pretty old and brittle).


Photo attached for reference... And don't mind the dirty bilge. I had finally taken the driver seat out yesterday and along with that came a massive amount of leaves and debris I had to sweep out.

I'm surprised that on a 14 year old boat the hoses would be that brittle. Hooking up a manual mode depends on your dash switching. I sure like the availability of being able to turn it on without having to rely on an automatic mode.

Don't assume a new Rule 25 will snap into the base. Changes are common but installing a new base isn't a big deal.

Boat sat in the texas heat for at least two years with no cover and most of the floor out. Everything was toasty... I snapped (no cutting involved) all the original ballast/bilges hoses to get them out.

I really should have taken more pictures when i picked this pile up


Edit: Dashboard has a single on/off button that presumably runs both bilges.

Trey,
Since you are finding all the bad hoses, I suggest checking all the engine hoses too.

Unless someone will fill you in on the wiring in a 2000, you should do some investigation. The butt splices don't look original so maybe a PO has been hacking.

All of the engine hoses are being replaced.. Actually every hose in the entire boat will be replaced, even the one from the glove box drain.

The wiring on the other side of the connector pictured is original but as you said the butt splices (and bilge pump) are not. The rear bilge is the same model doesn't have any splices with the original connector. It is two wires (brown/black).

The old base can probably be re-used, but based on the brittleness of all the other plastics, it's probably wise just to replace them. The new pumps will come with them anyway.
