+1 If ethanol-free fuel is not readily available, use an ethanol stabilizer such as Lucas Oil: http://lucasoil.com/products/fuel-treatments/safeguard-ethanol-fuel-conditioner-with-stabilizers Your fuel octane rating will be more engine specific. The higher the compression ratio and the more spark advance on the timing will often require a higher octane rating. Elevation will also affect the octane rating. As the elevation increases, the volumetric efficiency of the engine will correspondingly decrease as there is less air and air pressure to push into the engine. This reduces the compression ratio of the engine. What engine is in your Ski Tique? Stock? Modified? If stock, you should be OK with 87 octane. JQ |

Thanks for the info. I did put regular 87 into it yesterday and it is Def running rough and stalling in idle speed.

I am pretty nauvice so do u think I did any real damage by running it with regular gas? Would putting an additive in help at this point?

No and no. Did you just buy the boat? Was it running fine when you bought it or did this just start? If it just started with this tank you could siphon it and run over to here and fill up with recreational gas. At least you have a choice

No e-free here and my boats don't (generally) run like crap. 87 should also be fine on a stock PCM ford, certainly at idle. You've got other issues.

The boat came with a house I bought a few months ago. Took it out a 1/2 a dozen times and it has run fine. Problem definitely started today when I added gas. I will try to remove the remaining gas and add the correct pruduct. Thanks

I believe that if you have the small spark plugs 14mm you have hardened seats. The large 18mm no. '75 '76 I'm thinking for cars

Lead substitute is not needed on any boat engine. Do you know what "White" gas is? Do you know it was common way back and run in many marine engines. There is no substitution for lead and only a waste of money. I have NEVER run it in any of my engines. |
