I would like to buy a GoPro but there are several models out there. I know many of you use them and I would like some suggestions as to what is a good model that has enough features so I won't regret the purchase down the road, but doesn't have more than I need in complexity and price either. They seem to range from about $130-$500. I will use it on both land and water, principally boating and motorcycling, but I'm sure I will find other instances where it will come in handy.
Thanx. |

The current silver edition is probably the best regarding features. They have a new cube version, but I'm not too sure of the specs.
This Guy has some really good tips and comparisons for the GoPros. |

I have the Hero 2 Silver and my daughter has the Hero 4 (silver). You can see some of my videos on this site under Learning to Barefoot. The older videos are with the hero 2 and the most recent with the hero 4.
I am not very "savvy" when it comes to the difference - the big thing for me with the hero 4 is the screen on the back of the camera and the ability to connect to a tablet / smart phone while on the water. Both camera's will work fine for most applications - it is just how much bling you want and how technical you are when it comes to spec's and what you want to do with the unit Good luck and post some videos! |

John I have a Hero 4 Silver which has the HD recording but not full 4K like the Hero 4 Black.
The touch screen on back is only useful when not inside the waterproof enclosure which is a bit self defeating when used for water sports. Using it as a display you will need your glasses :) The WiFi option is the Hero 4's best feature you can play back, turn on etc directly from your smart phone. Be careful as when left in WiFi mode the camera battery life is reduced significantly. When recording in the highest resolution and frame rates the video files are huge and if uploading directly to Youtube it will be slow and the quality will also be downgraded. |

Hero 4 silver. I am not savvy enough to use all the features but the wifi connection to your phone,as stated above, is real handy.

I have the hero 4 black and use it quite often,
I have a photography and videography background so went all in. For anyone else I would recommend the Hero 4 Silver, more than enough features and quality and the added bonus of the touchscreen at the back, even if in a housing it makes setting it up far easier and makes it a lot more user friendly. The small cube version, hero session as its called is nice and small but you cannot swap out batteries which is a HUGE downside in my opinion. (These GoPros are known for their short battery life) I have 2 batteries and have just ordered another 2 for those long days out. Depending on the resolution you get about an hour or 2 recording time at a guess. I just record short clips but have the camera on the whole time we are on the water and do find myself swapping out batteries. If you want a cheap alternative checkout the polaroid cube, |
