Some of you heavy surfers may have heard of some miners being stuck in an elevator shaft last night, they work a salt mine that is under the lake next to mine here in Central NYS. If you drove to work in the north east the last couple days your car might be covered with some of the product. It is an insane endeavor 2300 feet under the ground they have been mining salt day in and day out for nearly a hundred years now, usually about 50 people a half mile underground at any given time. This vane of salt under the area is part of the origin of the Salt Potatoes that we enjoy here in the Central NY area and I have tried to send out to a few other parts of the country… for those of you that have an interest in history and crazy engineering projects…

I've spent a lifetime passing thru Watkins Glen on our way to Keuka and as I'm sure you know, there are also salt mines 1/2 mile down under Seneca as well. Seneca Lake is over 600 feet at it's deepest, i wonder how deep the water is down by the mines at the south end.
