hello.

i have a nautique exel 1992 with a protec ignition system.
i need a replacement for this one.
i can not find it because the engine is reverse rotation and protec is no longer availeble.
model:PRD-WR-R10T
serial:312563
firing order:18456273

looking from the flywheel the engine rotates to the right [cranck pulley and camshaft]
the distributor rotates to the left.

any ideas?????

Most people with ProTec issues will simply replace the system with a distributor and coil set-up.

The
ignition swap tutorial is a good place to see what's involved.

This thread goes over a bunch of questions that were asking prior to the swap.

I do know that another member is selling his old ProTec coil pack here

What symptoms are you having that makes you think the system is bad?

i tested the system and when engine is cold i can go up to 4200 rpm.
when it heats up max is 22oo rpm.
tried taking of knock sensor, temp and oil press alarm but no difference.
leaves the coil pack/computer to be bad.
did this several times but never had a reverse rotation and there is the problem.
can't find the right conventional distibutor with coil.

If you decide to convert to a distributor/coil set up: Many on here have bought conventional distributors and just replaced the gear with a reverse rotation gear. I just converted one for a member this month. You may be able to reuse your gear. Or I have a spare RR gear. Just need to check the shaft size. Duane

so that means i can use a standard rotation distributor and only change the gear to have it running again?
what type of distributor/coil you recommand for my boat?

Not in a V-Drive.
When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

The distributor turns CCW looking down on the cap no matter whether the engine is CCW or CC rotation. I used a Mallory (which was just bought out by MSD). IF you do choose a new distributor just make sure your coil is the correct OHMS. Might be best to diagnose your setup first and then determine whether to replace or rebuild. Duane

edit: OOPS, I assume it's a Ford?

Not so fast my friends. Excels had both Righties and Lefties mated to their V-Drives. The 351s varied R and L, but I haven't seen a lefty Chevy. (EDIT- Read what I actually typed! Ha!)

They were the PCM transition phase to the wake boats' SuperSport/SAN210 V-drive, all lefty engines. The key here is his engine tag: :PRD-WR-R10T - always helpful!

Performance Distributors' DUI is a nice unit. I'll let you know what I think about it in a 454 if I ever make the swap. It was sweet in the 350 chevy in the Tique.

Pretty sure Mark from N3's '91 footer has a RH 454, Steve. You're saying yours is a lefty?

The 351w I pulled out of my '91 excel is a righty as well. I'd be curious to know when they switched... And what ratio v-drives went with what. I think there may have been both 1.25:1 and 1.5:1?

Pull the trigger and measure the shaft diameter. You may be able to reuse the RH gear on a new distributor. That is the only piece that is rotation specific.

Tim -
I just read what I typed - Doh! You are right, RH 454 is what I have only seen. Stupid.

Mine is PRK-WR-R10T.
