Has anyone found a replacement marine type starter relay for the pleasurecraft engines?
It has a Ford part number of E4JL-11450-AA. I was hoping someone has found a marine approved replacement from a different manufacturer that I could get without waiting a few days. Some people call this a starter solenoid but I think the correct name is starter relay. It clicks but no power from the out put side to starter. This is mounted away from the solenoid and starter assembly.
Thanks to all.

Doug,
Are you sure the relay is marine specific? I have a feeling it isn't. Have you tried your local automotive sources? It doesn't need to be a Ford part. Just make sure you get one with the same contact arrangement and one with a equal or better amp rating.

I'm surprised there isn't any continuity across the contacts. With the coil energized, what does it Ohm out to across the contacts? I'm wondering if the armature is simply hanging up? The typical failure is the contacts welding together from a low voltage problem.

Thanks for the response.
I believe it to be marine specific relay. It looks identical to the one listed on DIM for pleasurecraft marine application. It's from a GT 40 engine. When the relay is energized there remaines a 12 volt drop across the large relay terminals. I believe a voltage drop test is the best way to test the contacts. I would not want to see more than a couple of tenths of a volt drop across contacts when relay is engaged and starter working. Dynamic tests sometimes are more accurate than ohm tests.

Doug,
Yes, I agree that getting a voltage drop with a load is better than a simple Ohm reading without a load but you said there wasn't any power on the output hence the contacts not even closing idea. I've never looked at a starter relay closely and wonder why the "marine" rating? I wonder if some are ignition protected?

Did you find an alternate or are you waiting the couple days?

Good question about the marine rating. I bet there are a lot of automotive type starter relays out there being used in boats. My only guess is the contact area of the relay on a marine type is sealed better due to arcing. It would be so easy to just put a non rated one on, but if something bad ever happened how do I live with myself. Found one on eBay for $20 so its ordered.
Thanks for your help.
