Replacing the two impellers in my raw water pump. One came out without a problem; the other appears to be "seized" onto the shaft. Any suggestions? I have used Liquid Wrench without success.

Terry,
They can be stubborn! Although pricey, this is sometimes needed. Maybe a marina in your area has one you can use? Impeller puller at Jamestown Have you dropped the engine into the boat yet? We're still waiting on those pictures! |

Gear Puller
Many auto retail stores and bicycle shops will have these tools that you can borrow or just take your pump in and have them pull it out using their gear puller. |

Well instead of buying a $100 puller I would give it a try. You could use a large zip tie or simple clamp around a small gear puller to make it dig into the rubber. I have used many gear pullers that are smaller and they should do the job. You can also sharpen the teeth if you so needed.

Jim, Give it a try and report back. If you do get a puller from an auto retailer or bike shop, I don't think they would like you sharpening the arms! |

I've used 2 screwdrivers (assuming you plan to chuck the old impeller, which you should). Use them to bite into opposite sides of the impeller, then lever them against the housing. You have to protect the housing with small pieces of wood or hard rubber so you don't ruin the mating surface.
