Need help as I am considering buying a 318 Poly for my 65 Cuda. Motor is missing flywheel, bell housing, starter and tranny. My Cuda has a 1987ish 318 that is complete but frozen by PO.

Will my non-Poly parts fit the Poly block and crank, or am I chasing a parts nightmare? Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Dave Hurrikain at www.hurrikain.com is an expert on old Chrysler marine engines. He advised me that the LM318 replaced the 318 Poly but it is a direct swap out at the bell housing. Fly wheel and starter are also direct fits. He has some limited almost NLA parts available and knows his stuff.

Sorry we missed this earlier

That jives with what I suspect, the main differences are the heads

The heads indeed, but that makes the intake manifolds, valve covers, and exhaust manifolds pretty much pure unobtainium so don't sleep on those parts- very pretty machinery though. I wouldn't switch to a poly but if you have one in a boat show it some love.
